Ami and her physics teacher are excited to see a comet named Francois appear before them. But Taiki is not interested as he knows that upcoming rain will keep the star from shining. This puts him at odds with Ami who doesn't approve of his cold approach to science and life in general.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Ambiguously Gay: Professor Amanogawa is hinted to have a thing for men as he blushes red when he thinks about his comet which he named Francois.
  • Badass in Distress: Out of fear of exposing her Secret Identity to the Phage, Ami has to evade Sailor Teacher's attacks while untransformed.
  • Big "NO!": Gangster Mouse says this when she realizes that the handsome scientist from her newspaper clipping has turned into an old man in the present.
  • Book Ends: The episode starts and ends with Usagi and Minako bickering with each other while using "one millionth of a second" as part of their argument.
  • Failed a Spot Check: While Ami was super excited to see the comet, she failed to check on Juuban's weather conditions which shows an ongoing pouring of rain.
  • Friendship Moment: Ami is still saddened to see that it's still raining on the day the comet is supposed to appear. But Usagi, Minako and Makoto show up to offer her support and hope that the sky will clear up.
  • Genius Slob: Professor Amanogawa is an accredited physician who worked with high ranking astronomers and discovered a well-known comet. He also dresses like he woke up 5 minutes before the start of first period.
  • I Gave My Word: Taiki sarcastically replies that he'd show up to the observatory to see the comet if the rain stopped. And
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Ami tries to reason with her former professor after he transformed into a Phage.
  • I Was Quite a Looker: Amanogawa looked pretty decent 15 years ago. Compared to the present where he looks like a dorky hobo.
  • Idiot Ball: Ami pleads with Sailor Star Maker to spare the Phage insisting that there must be some way to turn him back into a human. Mind you both of them were present to see Sailor Moon use her new Finishing Move to turn Phages back to normal in the previous episodes.
  • Insufferable Genius: Taiki is revealed to be this type of nerd. While upholding science, he detests to see his physics teacher and academic rival mixing scientific matters with idealism and emotional value.
  • Malaproper: While insisting to Usagi that she should have Taiki's notes all to herself, Minako declares that "the early bird is mightier than the sword".
  • The Rival: Taiki stands out as a fellow genius who constantly ties with Ami for first place in the school exams.
  • Running Gag: Makoto believes that Amanogawa named his comet after someone who broke his heart.
  • Sadist Teacher: The friendly Amanogawa becomes Sailor Teacher, an aggressive fashion disaster instructor who targets innocent students.
  • Save the Villain: Ami tackles Sailor Teacher to keep him from being blasted by Star Gentle *snickers* Uterus.
  • Stars Are Souls: Discussed. One boy asks the Professor and Taiki if it's possible for a person to become a star when they die. While the Professor considers it a possibility, Taiki is quick to destroy his childlike hope with brutal facts.
  • That Man Is Dead: Star Maker argues that Ami's beloved teacher is no more the second he became a Phage.
  • Transformation Sequence: Taiki turns into Sailor Star Maker by reciting Maker Star Power, Make Up!.
