"If you have a dream, no matter how unrealistic it may seem right now, you can make it come true. If you really believe in it, just hold that dream in your heart. Change your evil ways and become a truly good person! And you know what, Mimete? You can be a star of the future!”
Usagi Tsukino

(CWi Episode: "Mimet's Mess")

Minako secretly enters an idol contest in the hopes of being picked as pop star Jinta Araki's heroine for an upcoming film production. Along the way, she gains a friendly rival in Mimete who is seriously considering quitting the Death Busters if she wins the contest and becomes a true idol. Like that's ever gonna happen!

Tropes in this episode include:

  • 15 Minutes of Fame: Discussed. Alazin mentions to Minako how there will come a time where everyone will forget him and move on with their lives.
  • Adaptational Context Change: In the original series, after cementing their new kinship, Minako and Mimete glare angrily at the receptionist for no meaningful reason other then telling them the bad news about Jinta's abscence. In the Viz Dub, an announcer declares that audition sign ups are about to close, so the two girls glare out of determination in participating before it's too late.
  • Anti-Climax: Just when it looks like U-Tahime is about to attack with her killer singing, she sheepishly admits that she forgot the lyrics. She ends up remembering just as she's being destroyed by Rainbow Moon Heartache.
  • Bait-and-Switch: During their first encounter, both Minako and Mimete act suspicious of each other as if they could see through their civilian disguises. Even going as far as to pull on their shirts. It then turns out they were focusing on their matching Araki t-shirts.
  • Benevolent Boss: After being won over by her fake tears, Professor Tomoe assures Mimete that he still thinks highly of her and believes that she'll make a great leader one day. And even before that, him bringing up her fascination with celebrities was only out of concern that she wasn't focused on her work as a Death Buster. Later, he expresses concern about her health when he thinks she's running a fever, and he's quite forgiving of her coming back empty-handed.
  • Birds of a Feather: Minako hits it off with Mimete after they realize how much they both admire Jinta.
  • Blatant Lies: Minako tries to present herself as having the same standards as everyone by showing disinterest in idols. She says this despite being a huge admirer of idols.
  • Call-Back: Minako brings up her talent at volleyball along with her special move.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: Minako has a word with Artemis for revealing her love of idols to her friends.
  • Closet Geek: Minako is a huge lover of idols but she has to keep that love a secret from her friends. Especially after they take the time to criticize fangirl culture in front of her.
  • Crocodile Tears: After being called out by her boss for mixing playtime with her work, Mimete resorts to crying on the floor to win sympathy points.
  • Deadpan Snarker: When Mimete smugly assumes that everyone was screaming over her charming personality, her Daimon assures her that everyone is in pain over joy.
  • Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: Mimete's first scene features her singing along to Usagi's Image Song "I Am Sailor Moon".
  • Dub Name Change: Jinta Araki is named "Jonah Araki" in the Cloverway dub.
  • Dwindling Party: To show that they've moved on from the loss of their leader Eudial, the witches have now rebranded themselves as the Witches 4.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Usagi, Rei, and Makoto each express distaste at how wacko fangirls in general act when it comes to their favorite idols.
  • Evil Is Petty: After losing the contest, Mimete reveals her true nature and gets to work claiming a Pure Heart as part of her job. However, she also makes a point of lashing out at the audience simply for not voting for her.
  • Fairy Tale Motifs: Fitting his Punny Name, some of Alazin's album covers display a magic lamp.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: After she's chosen to compete in the second round, Mimete begins to have serious doubts about staying with the Death Busters if she's accepted to be the heroine in Araki's movie.
  • Friendship Moment: After scaring off Mimete, the Inner Guardians allow Venus to be the one to return Arajin's Pure Heart while showing acceptance for her love of idols.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: Without realizing that she's Mimete in disguise, Minako competes against Mimi Hanyu with the two of them supporting each other on their road to stardom.
  • Graceful Loser: Minako isn't too bothered with losing her chance at stardom as she at least was lucky enough to meet Araki.
  • Imagine Spot: Mimete briefly imagines herself as an official idol with legions of fans praising her.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong:
    • As the professor assures his Messiah that his talented subordinated is making a new plan, music can be heard playing on another level which is revealed to be Mimete's doing.
    • Makoto is delighted to see Usagi paying attention to Ami's lecture and how she's picking up on the new material. Usagi joyfully declares that she has no idea what's going on.
  • Internal Reveal: Sailor Pluto converses with her friends that the Death Busters may have already acquired their Messiah of Silence, thus explaining why they're still hunting Pure Hearts.
  • Ironic Echo Cut: Mimete happily assures herself that she's a good person who's never done a single bad thing in her life. The camera then cuts to a framed photo of her predecessor Eudial.
  • Make Some Noise: Mimete's official attack is Charm Buster which allows her to summon sonic screeches shaped like stars to stir up suffering at any unsuspecting subject.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Some of Arajin's projects include modeling. Mimete even has a poster of him posing in a speedo.
  • Musical Assassin: The Serenade Daimon: U-Tahime is proclaimed to attack using the power of song. Unfortunately for her and Mimete, she forgot the lyrics leaving her unable to attack.
  • Open Secret: Minako's fangirl interest is revealed to the Inner girls thanks to Artemis spilling the tea.
  • Punny Name: By combining the kanji from Jinta and Araki, the idol uses the moniker "Arajin/Alazin" which brings to mind the poor boy who became a prince from the Arabian Nights.
  • Shadow Archetype: This episode serves to highlight Mimete as a dark reflection of Minako. While Minako loves and respects idols for their talent, Mimete has no respect for them and her love for celebrities is shown to be selfish and self-serving. And while Minako planned on keeping up with her magical girl duties while balancing her idol career, Mimete is willing to switch allegiances at the drop of a hat as long as it conveniences her.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!: In response to Sailor Venus admonishing a self-proclaimed fangirl about how to treat an idol and how she endangered one, Mimete points out she's a villain in an outfit that both explicitly calls itself "Death Busters" and preys on innocents.
  • Sore Loser: After losing the idol contest, Mimete decides to transform and wreak havoc on the audience while summoning U-Tahime to steal Alazin's Pure heart.
  • Status Quo Is God: Neither Minako or Mimete succeed in obtaining the heroine role, meaning that they can continue their Sailor Guardian and Death Buster careers without interference.
  • Take a Third Option: In the event that she does win the contest, Minako planned to continue her Sailor duties while balancing her idol career. Essentially becoming a Sailor Guardian Idol.
  • Take That!: The episode takes multiple jabs at the idol industry.
    • The Inner Girls take jabs at how wacko Jinta's fans are and how they don't have anything better to do.
    • One of the judges in the first screening is a creep who's question implies that he'd want to take one of the contestants (Minako) out on a date.
    • Jinta Araki casually informs the blonde guardian that she and all his fans will eventually forget about him, as is the fate of many idols and celebrities who shine in the industry only to be forgotten over time.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Even though she loses the contest, Minako gets a few consolation prizes afterwards. Such as a one-on-one meeting with her beloved Arajin. And after the fight, her friends allow her to be the one to return Arajin's Pure Heart while accepting her secret fangirl side.
  • Villain Opening Scene: Professor Tomoe begins the story by meeting his Messiah of Silence and promising her a Pure Heart brought forth by his talented subordinate. He says this as Mimete is busy playing karaoke.
  • We Will Meet Again: Forced to flee from Sailor Venus, Mimete promises this.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: In the second round, it looks as though Mimete earned enough audience votes to win the contest and begin her career as a star. But then the votes drop down just enough so she loses.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Mimete over U-Tahime forgetting the lyrics to her own attack song.
