• Bait-and-Switch: Invoked frequently.
• Benevolent Monsters: Luigi attempts to invoke this by introducing "Mr. Bob," your friendly neighborhood skeleton. He then tries to end the story there, but everyone else hates the ending and force Mr. Bob to become spooky by making Frankie mistreat him.
• Big Damn Heroes: Wario attempts to invoke this twice. The first time he was successful (and gets knocked out by Reggiegigas almost immediately afterwards), but the second time SMG4 stops him from doing it again.
  • Waluigi tries to invoke this as well, planning on giving Wario CPR (which turns into a Ho Yay moment). Cut to the campfire and everyone's disturbed by the fact that Waluigi just appeared out of nowhere to add to the story. Wario punches him and tells him to get out.
• Diabolus ex Machina: Constantly invoked.
• Deus ex Machina: Also constantly invoked.
• Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Disappointed by the way Luigi tried to end the story, Mario, SMG4, and Bowser cause Frankie to mistreat Mr. Bob to trigger Mr. Bob's spooky mode.
• Too Dumb to Live: Bowser's story self forces Frankie through three spooky terrors. The final terror involves Frankie going through the "spooky room," resulting in Frankie getting a lollipop for the trouble. When Bowser sees this, he wants to go through the spooky room to to get a lollipop... and gets lit on fire. Back in the real world, Bowser is complaining about always being the one set on fire.
• Gainax Ending: In-Universe, Steve makes an ending that makes absolutely no sense, enraging SMG4 because he ruined his story.
• Ghost Story: The entire episode is about SMG4 and his friends sitting around a campfire while SMG4 tells a spooky story... except Mario and co constantly add their own details to the story.
• Loophole Abuse: When the rest of the gang force Mr. Bob to become evil, Luigi comes up with a last resort idea to prevent Mr. Bob from attacking Frankie: Mr. Bob becomes so spooky he explodes.
• Mood Whiplash: Repeatedly invoked and Played for Laughs.
• Unfortunate Names: Mario names the boy of the story Frankie McButtface.
• Visual Pun: Reggiegigas.
