Recap / Ridonculous Race Ca-Noodling

Go To

The six remaining teams travel to Vietnam, where they're merged into two temporary "super-teams". The new teams must work together to catch some catfish, before making their way though tunnels loaded with traps in search of the Don Box, which contains a map to the exit. Devin becomes desperate to win Carrie's love, while Carrie and Ryan continue their Odd Friendship.

Tropes

  • Cannot Spit It Out: Devin's repeated efforts to tell Carrie how he feels get interrupted by random events or other contestants.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Josee and Jacques are proud of how they managed to get the Goths eliminated.
    Josee: Second place. Again!
Jacques: But at least I got another team eliminated.
Josee: That's true. We did. It's like we won a gold medal in treachery!
  • Combat Pragmatist: MacArthur has no problems tasering anyone who gets in her or Sanders' way.
  • Dungeon Bypass: The newly-introduced Zip-It Ticket allows any team that obtains it to skip any remaining challenges and go directly to the Chill Zone.
  • Enemy Mine: The teams are forced to work together after being put onto "super-teams" with each other. This actually causes the Ice Dancers, Police Cadets and Haters to form an alliance known as the "Axis of Evil".
  • Graceful Loser: Though bummed out, Geoff and Brody reflect on all the fun they had in the race. They intend to surf off their lingering disappointment.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Geoff and Brody decide to let Carrie and Devin go ahead of them to the Chill Zone as thanks for giving the signal, even though this means they'll be eliminated. This comes back to benefit them later in the season when Carrie and Devin are forced to drop out and choose them as replacements.
  • Impact Silhouette: When they hear Emma's screams for help, Geoff and Brody bust through the cave's wall to save her. They leave perfect silhouettes in their wake.
  • Indy Escape: Geoff and Brody active a rolling boulder trap. They run away from it down the tunnel and lose it at some point.
  • The Load: Devin becomes a liability to Carrie since his vision is still impaired from his chilli pepper accident the previous episode.
  • Odd Friendship: Carrie and Ryan continue their bond from the previous episode.
  • Pit Trap: Emma steps into a pit trap hidden with clay. It's the version with spikes at the bottom, which Emma avoids by hanging on for dear life. Kitty isn't strong enough to lift her sister up, but the Surfer Bros hear them and are loyal to the alliance. They bust through the wall to save Emma.
  • Playing Both Sides: Ryan acknowledges how it's better for him and Stephanie if the Police Cadets and Ice Dancers stay focused on hating each other.
  • Pun-Based Title: The title is a play on the word "canoodling".
  • Shout-Out:
    • The new gameplay elements (the Super-Team and Zip-It) are based on Intersection and Fast Forward from The Amazing Race.
    • The Surfers trigger a boulder trap reminiscent of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
    • At one point Carrie says "Gee, who turned out the lights?", a Catchphrase used by the Vashta Nerada from Doctor Who.
    • Devin has a scream that sounds similar to Stu Pickles' scream.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: The Police Cadets and the Ice Dancers being on the same "super-team" results in this. Sanders actively has to stop MacArthur and Josee from fighting each other.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: The Surfer Dudes are the only ones committed to the idea of a "super-team" for entirely pure reasons and would gladly help the others in the group. They're also perfectly content to split the prize money.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Don is perfectly happy to give Geoff and Brody false hope that they might not be eliminated.
Don: See what I did there? That's TV fishing. Gave ya some line and a little hope and then yanked it away! It's gonna look great and all this explaining will be edited out. Cool, huh?
    Geoff: Bummer, dude...
Don: Some people just don't get show business.
