Recap / Resident Alien S 2 E 10 The Ghost Of Bobby Smallwood

Go To

81 years ago Bobby and his sister were hunting rabbits. He got away from her and followed a rabbit into the abandoned mine, never to be seen again.

In the present day, Asta greets Harry in the morning, happy and relaxed after the memory wipe. He assures her all is well with the baby and his people.

After hearing from a dairy farmer that he was attacked by a chupacabra, Harry concludes it is the alien baby and goes looking for it at the farm. He chases it to the abandoned mine but has a panic attack and can't enter.

Asta starts noticing the discrepancies in her memory, unable to recall D'Arcy telling her about her date and Jay angrily complaining about being stood up. She confronts Harry about it and regains her memories. She explains even the bad emotions are part being human and Harry is in denial about being afraid to die.

After Harry's autopsy report, Ben tries to convince Sheriff Mike to take a back seat to Jessup, fearing another murder will scare off the resort developers, which he is unwilling to do. Mike and Liv investigates a boat found in the lake after the baby killed the men in it. Detective Lena butts in and connects their van to the murder investigation. She discoveries the identities of the men and Mike starts warming up to her.

On Mike's advice, Ben talks to his wife in a public place. She storms off after he admits he is afraid to tell her anything. Back at home, he rekindles their relationship by chatting with her on the phone like they used to, even though she is just in the next room.

Sahar comes across the alien baby, having taken the form of the missing Bobby Smallwood. After Bobby's now elderly sister reconizes her, he hisses and runs away. Sahar realizes what has happened and chases after him, taking him back to the RV. Beliving Harry is breeding them to be evil, she plans to raise him to be good.

Tropes

  • Blatant Lies: Having forgotten the egg already hatched, Asta wanted to check on it in the bunker. Harry assures her it is fine.
Harry: Do not worry about the baby. It is in the bunker in its shell and definitely not somewhere else, who knows where.
  • Couch Gag: The IKEA-like instructions explain avoiding dealing with a crowed elevator by eating fish for bad breath.
  • Delivery Not Desired: This episode reveals that Asta has written letters for each of Jay's birthdays only to keep those in a box.
  • Dramatic Irony: Sahar believes Harry is breeding aliens babies for evil and keeping him from him. Harry needs the baby to tell him who is trying to take over the world and how.
  • Free-Range Children: 81 years ago Bobby and his sister were sent out into the woods to hunt for meat, resulting in a Missing Child.
  • Mercy Kill: After confronting his own fears of death, Harry assists a terminally ill patient in his suicide.
  • Memory Trigger: The sound of the pool balls reminds Asta of the gunshot, which confuses her.
  • Never-Forgotten Skill: Subverted. Asta forgets how to make coffee after Harry tampered with her memories. Or he just doesn't like how she makes it.
  • Oblivious to Her Own Description: Judy complains about how clingy Brenda is, not realizing it mirrors her own behavior towards D'Arcy.
  • Post-Stress Overeating: Harry orders every Comfort Food on the diner's menu while trying to avoid facing his fear of death. He tried to get them to fry the pie but they refused.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: Judy misses D'Arcy's tone after the Oblivious to Her Own Description example above.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Harry screams like Ellen's mother when imagining his own dead body on the autopsy table.
  • Third Wheel: When Sheriff Mike and Lena start hitting it off, Liv starts to feel left out and largely ignored.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Asta calls out Harry for tampering with her memories.
