After catching Mordecai and Rigby playing a racing simulator in a restricted area. Colonel Rawls has the two enter in the annual Interstation 5000 which has other space stations racing to see who's the best. However this gains the ire of the Space Tree's previous racers who join Space Bush (from Ugly Moon) to compete against the duo.
Tropes:
- Big "NO!": Hans and Lars when Mordecai and Rigby manage to beat them and send the two plummeting back into the hole they raced out of.
- Face–Heel Turn: Hans and Lars were originally with the Space Tree. But after Rawls replaces them with Mordecai and Rigby due to the two not winning previous races, they defect over to the Space Bush station.
- Jerkass: Hans and Lars who are none too pleasant even before Rawls has them replaced, absolutely refuses to train Mordecai and Rigby despite Rawls ordering it, and even join Space Bush just to show up their replacements.
- Space Is Cold: One of the unfortunate racers has their vehicle blow up and land on the duo's car before freezing to death and shattering right before their eyes.
- Training Montage: Toothpick Sally trains in the park crew on how to race and be a pit crew for the duo's car.
- Wacky Racing: Somewhat, the racers are encourages to bump, sabotage or outright destroy the other vehicles. But this can lead to deadly consequences for the racers.
