The moment where Zerk knew...he messed up.

Written by: Joe Purdy

Team Propulsion attempt to build a big moon base, hoping to beat the previous record set by Zerk, Jet's obnoxious, conceited cousin. A strange rumbling on the moon threatens their plans.

  • Big Eater: It's revealed that Sean is this trope, since he reveals that he stress-eats, and he's stressed pretty much all the time.
  • Big "NO!": Zerk screams "NOOOOOOOOO!" at the end of this episode after Jet throws his smartwatch away, which means Zerk can no longer bother Jet.
  • The Bully: Zerk to Jet, Sean, and Sydney.
  • Category Traitor: Zerk thinks Jet is a sell-out because he associates with humans, and even has the audacity to call him an "Earthie".
  • Clashing Cousins: Zerk and Jet have this dynamic in the episode. Jet is calm and kind, while Zerk continually annoys him and is racist to the Earthies.
  • Competition Freak: Zerk is extremely competitive and always likes to win everything, as we learn in this episode.
  • Downer Ending: The kids' moon base gets destroyed at the end of the episode, saddening them.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: Zerk doesn't make an actual physical appearance in this episode, but his profile picture is shown on Jet's watch, and he looks highly similar to Jet. However, in "Back to Bortron 7", Zerk has freckles, slicked back orange hair, and a lime green space suit, which he keeps for the rest of the series.
  • Fantastic Racism: This episode reveals that Zerk has a very prejudiced, speciesist, and racist views of humans. He doesn't believe that Earthies aren't very good at building and believes in Bortronian superiority.
Zerk: I mean, building on moons is my thing, not yours, Jet. Plus-plus, y-you're more of an "Earthie" now, and we all know they don't build as well as Bortronians! (laughs)
  • It's All About Me: Zerk has this attitude throughout the episode, as he is a braggart with a huge ego.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Zerk keeps bothering Jet, Sean, and Sydney to no end via Jet's smartwatch. At the end of the episode, Zerk annoys Jet again, and gets what he deserves after Jet throws the smartwatch into the vastness of space.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: Celery describes Zerk as not being a typical Bortronian and she is absolutely right. Whereas most Bortronians are sweet and like to compete for fun, Zerk (at least in that episode) is a Competition Freak and constantly annoys his cousin. He's even somewhat racist to Sean and Sydney.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Jet gets continually pissed off at Zerk's rudeness. Jet notes that Zerk is probably just trying to troll him and get a reaction out of him, since Jet rarely gets mad and is usually calm and peaceful.
  • Rhetorical Request Blunder: Since Sean is incredulous to the episode's events, he rhetorically asks someone to pinch him, and Sunspot pinches him. Sean later clarifies that he didn't mean that literally.
  • Shout-Out: The episode title is probably one to the Big Maybelle song, "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On".
  • Stunned Silence: Zerk is at a loss for words when Jet shows him his moon base.
  • Telepathy: Jet thinks that Zerk has the power to read his mind, which is why he always seems to know what Jet's doing.

No need to panic 'cause it just makes rain!

Jet is stoked about Open House Day at the DSA, but his alien tendencies may give away his identity. Sean and Sydney take it upon themselves to transform Jet into a civilized member of human society.

  • All Animals Are Dogs: The humans believe that Sunspot is actually a kid in a dog costume.
  • An Aesop: Don't try to suppress other's unique traits. You never know when they might come in handy.
  • Balloonacy: The DSA weather balloon gets away in some nasty weather. Sean tries to grab it, but it ends up carrying it with him.
  • Benevolent Boss: Dr. Rafferty's boss is surprisingly kind to her.
  • Be Yourself: Played for Drama. Jet wants to go to the DSA Open House with Sean and Sydney, but Sean and Sydney will only let him go if he behaves like a regular Earth kid. He can't say he's from Bortron 7, he can't use his "tool-armed backpack thingy" (which doubles as a jetpack), and he can't sing. However, at the Open House, the DSA weather balloon flies away in some bad weather, carrying Sean along with it. So, Sydney convinces Jet to be himself, so he can save Sean. He ends up rescuing Sean with his jetpack, and sings a song about how he is Bortronian. Pretty much, if Jet wasn't himself, Sean probably would've been killed.
  • Breather Episode: In terms of education. The episode isn't as educational as other episodes, having a very brief weather lesson. The episode focuses more on the drama and characters.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Sean and Sydney's role as Jet's minders is particularly played up in this episode. Sean and Sydney desperately try to get Jet to behave like a regular Earth kid, and Jet does well until he has to use his Bortronian jet pack to save Sean.
  • Buffy Speak: Sydney refers to Jet's robotic arm backpack as a "tool-armed backpack thingy".
  • Continuity Cavalcade: One of the tasks that Jet has to do in order to be a regular Earth kid is to sort a bunch of pictures that Sunspot took in previous episodes, such as the butt picture from "Satellite Selfie", and the Great Red Spot Club group picture from "Sunspot and the Great Red Spot".
  • Crowd Surfing: Jet and Sunspot surf on the crowd during Jet's song number towards the end of the episode.
  • Distressed Dude: The DSA weather balloon flies off in some nasty weather, and carries Sean along with it. But luckily, Jet saves him with his jetpack.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Jet, who is open and proud about his alien identity, is forced to hide it away because he could be endangered if anyone ever found out about it, and goes through training to behave "normal". In other words, he's closeted. Sound familiar?
  • Face Palm: Sydney does this when Jet fails to be an Earthie.
  • Faint in Shock: Carrot faints into Celery's arms when Jet mentions him in his song.
  • "Flowers for Algernon" Syndrome: In the episode, Jet is tasked to behave like a normal human kid. Sean and Sydney put him through intensive training so he can behave as such, since they're sincerely worried about his alien identity getting exposed to the public. Jet does a relatively good job of behaving like a regular Earth kid, but reverts by the end of the episode, because he uses his jetpack to save Sean and performs a song about how he is Bortronian.
  • Have You Tried Not Being a Monster?: Sean and Sydney try very hard to get the alien Jet to behave like a human so he can blend in and not risk his true identity being exposed. They try to get him not to be an alien even though that's pretty much impossible, and Jet's alien quirks end up saving the day in the end.
  • "I Am" Song: "Bortronian is What I Am", written and sung by Jet himself.
  • Impossible Pickle Jar: One of Jet's tasks, in order to behave like a human, is to open a pickle jar with his bare hands. Jet has a hard time doing so, and even tries to use his robotic arms even though it's against the rules. However, Jet does eventually open the jar.
  • Jet Pack: It comes in handy when Jet has to rescue Sean and the weather balloon.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Jet admits that he likes to leap before looking during his song number.
  • Musicalis Interruptus: Sean and Sydney interrupt Jet's reprise of "Night of a Bazillion Stars".
  • Noodle Incident: Jet rhetorically asks if he's ever made a mistake. Sunspot then shows him some pictures of mistakes he's made in the past on his tablet. The giant runaway plant from "The Plant from Bortron 7" was brought up, but two other incidents (a "porcupine jumping contest" and a "maple syrup catapult") were brought up. Jet, at the very least, seems embarrassed by those incidents, and we have yet to learn exactly what went down in those events.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: On My Fair Lady.
  • Ship Tease: Sydney begs Jet to rescue Sean and calls Jet her alien friend "good old Jet". She also hugs him when asking him to do so.
  • Shout-Out: Besides the obvious one to My Fair Lady, there's also one Singin' in the Rain when Dr. Rafferty sings "We're standing in the rain" and Jet follows up with "Just standing in the-"
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: "We're all from Earth around here!"
  • Training Montage: Jet goes through a training montage while training to behave like a regular human child. Complete with rock music playing in the background, until Sean tells him to stop that. Sydney even lampshades it.
  • Unexpectedly Dark Episode: The episode starts out seeming light-hearted, but then it takes a turn for the bleak when it is revealed that if the Open House doesn't go well, the Deep Space Array will lose all its funding. Sean gets carried away by a weather balloon and is put into serious danger. Jet saves him and performs a song about he's Bortronian. Although Weirdness Censor is in effect, and the episode has a happy ending, this episode is still quite dreary.
  • Weirdness Censor: Jet explicitly sings that he's from Bortron 7, but no one seems to notice because they think that he has a great imagination.
  • We Were Rehearsing a Play: Jet sings a song about how he is Bortronian. Then, Mr. Peterson comes over, and asks "Bortronian is what you what?!?" Sean and Sydney, desperate to keep Jet's alien identity a secret, claim that he was rehearsing for a play he wrote.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: The episode is an entire reference to My Fair Lady, since Sean and Sydney try to get Jet to be a regular Earth kid the same way that Professor Higgins tries to get Eliza to become a proper lady.
