Recap / RWBY: Epic Of Remnant Ch 2 Our Shadows Look Good Together

Go To

In a flashback, Angra Mainyu and Gudako sit on a bed together in Chaldea. He reads a magazine about guns while she examines his many tattoos. Gudako borrowed that magazine from EMIYA Alter. She says she had asked EMIYA Alter what he would wish for, and he just laughed. She's been asking all the Servants what they would wish for. He reveals that he still has a connection to the Fuyuki Holy Grail, but he can't actually use it unless he's powered up by another Grail or a Command Spell. When he is, he can perform miracles. He tells her while it would be dangerous to use it in Chaldea, if she is ever in danger during a Singularity, she can use a Command Spell and he'll use his true power to save her. She hugs him, then they end up having sex.

In the endless black void of his Reality Marble, Angra Mainyu looks over the unconscious EMIYA Alter, Hassan of the Cursed Arm, Lancelot, and Gudako. He couldn't care less about the former three; they were just lucky enough to be close when he activated his Reality Marble to pull Gudako out of the Black Mud. He cradles Gudako's head on his lap. He can't wake her up. Her hair band, shoes, leggings, and sleeves were destroyed by the Black Mud, while the rest of her uniform is ragged. Her red hair's roots have turned pale, and parts of her skin have turned black with red veins. It's been three days since their final battle, given Gudako's three Command Spells have regenerated. He can tell that they have been pulled out of Babylonia and are in another world. He used the Reality Marble's control over time to repair their bodies, but he accidentally turned the Servants into teenagers. Even time reversal can't repair all the damage Tiamat did to Gudako; she'll need medical attention. He picks her up and exits the Reality Marble to try to find help.

When he emerges in the real world, he is shocked to see the moon has been shattered and wonders how that's even possible. They are in a forest with red autumn leaves. They are suddenly confronted by a huge pack of wolfmen with pitch black bodies seemingly made of darkness itself, glowing red eyes, and white, bone-like masks and armor. He can sense their pure malevolence, which appeals to him, but realizing he can't fight them while holding Gudako at the same time, he runs and they give chase.

Angra Mainyu runs for 15 minutes straight and the creatures don't let up. He can see a building poking above the trees on the horizon and runs toward it. Seeing that the creatures can keep up with a Servant and don't tire, he decides he has to fight. He jumps into a tree and rests Gudako in the branches, then jumps down and summons his claw-like blades, Tawrich and Zairich. He throws them like boomerangs and they easily slice through several of the creatures, but others bite his arms. It hurts, but he can sense their pure hatred of humanity and that negativity supercharges him. At the same time, he learns they are creatures of Grimm called Beowolves. As he releases an aura of pure negative emotion, practically every Grimm in the forest, mostly Beowolves and Ursa, converges on his location. They fall upon him and bite him over and over again, but he laughs.

In a castle in a dark wasteland, Salem, the Queen of the Grimm, is taking a nap on her throne when she senses her Grimm have found something with a surplus of negativity to eat, but it's not dying even though they are biting it. Channeling their senses, she hears the being say, "Verg Avesta." It abruptly turns into a huge lupine figure, similar to a Beowolf, but looking like a pure black void. It releases a wave of energy and the Grimm are all wiped out. Salem gasps and bleeds from her mouth and nose. She felt what her Grimm had felt, the sensation of being torn apart and eaten alive, returned twofold, but she couldn't be happier. Her human minions Arthur Watts, Hazel Rainart, and Tyrian Callows run into the room and ask her what happened. She laughs, unnerving them, and says to rejoice, for in the future, they will serve a King as well as a Queen. She chuckles at the looks on their faces.

There's a huge pile of disintegrating Grimm bodies. Angra Mainyu returns to human form, fully healed. He's amazed because Verg Avesta is not usually that powerful. He picks Gudako back up and continues walking. He could sense someone watching him through the Grimm's senses, and he feels slightly guilty because he could feel a stronger connection than the one he has with Gudako. He rationalizes it doesn't count as cheating. After all Gudako ogles the male Servants all the time. And whoever was watching is really far away.

After a few minutes, he finds a parked flying vehicle and a gray haired man wearing a suit and holding a cup of coffee and a cane. The man pulls out a device that looks similar to a data tablet from Chaldea and plays a recording of his battle with the Grimm and him using Verg Avesta to defeat them. The man demands to know who and what he is. He says his girlfriend is hurt and needs medical attention. If he helps them, he'll talk. The man agrees, saying his Bullhead will take them to his school, which has an infirmary. Angra Mainyu introduces himself, and the man introduces himself as Ozpin.

As the Bullhead flies, Angra Mainyu sadly strokes Gudako's hair. Ozpin remarks he cares for her a great deal. He says he's lived in hatred for so long that he's not sure what love is, but he's sure that's what he feels for her. Ozpin admits that when he saw his transformation, he had assumed he was some kind of Grimm. Angra Mainyu admits he doesn't know what the Grimm are, but he has some kind of connection to them and was able to learn their name. Ozpin asks about his powers and how he and Gudako found themselves in the forest. He decides to pull a half-truth and says he doesn't exactly remember. He says his group was fighting a woman who controlled a pool of Black Mud that spawned monsters, Gudako fell in it, he and his comrades jumped in to save her, and then he woke up in the forest with everyone else unconscious. Ozpin becomes very serious because based on Angra Mainyu's description of Tiamat, he assumes he was talking about Salem.

Angra Mainyu then explains his transformation allows him to deal double the damage he received to his opponents, and then heal. Ozpin says that is a fascinating Semblance, which confuses Angra Mainyu due to the unfamiliar terminology. Ozpin asks if his comrades are strong as well, and he admits he's the weakest of them. Ozpin admits he will have his medics treat Gudako no matter what, but he invites him and his comrades to join Beacon Academy, a school that teaches children to become Huntsmen and Huntresses in order to fight the Grimm and protect humanity. Ozpin is shocked when he enthusiastically agrees. Ozpin is fascinated by his personality and unique Semblance. As they arrive, Ozpin tells him that his Semblance makes him look like a Grimm, so he may experience prejudice. Will he be willing to lay down his life for humanity's sake? He answers that he hates humanity, since humanity is full of war, hate, and suffering, but Gudako loves humanity, so he'll fight for her. As they walk towards the school, Angra Mainyu suddenly remembers he left his comrades in the forest.

Angra Mainyu has just finished telling this story to his comrades, saying after dropping Gudako off at the infirmary, they flew back into the forest where he reentered the Reality Marble. EMIYA Alter angrily threatens to shoot him, saying they may look like teenagers, but they don't have time to play at being students. Hassan agrees, pointing out that despite his appearance, he is really, really old. Lancelot says he agrees with Angra Mainyu. The others say he is crazy, but he loses his temper and exerts some of his power. Lancelot points out they don't have a lot of options, so they might as well play along until Gudako wakes up. Besides, knowing Gudako, she would want them to take this second chance at a childhood. They reluctantly agree. Angra Mainyu points out they should leave because the Reality Marble isn't being fed energy and will collapse soon. Everyone curses and runs and they exit the Reality Marble, but EMIYA Alter punches Angra Mainyu. He says to himself this should be fun and leads them to the Bullhead.
