"Episode 4 of Quake has always been a source of debate among fans. The Elder World was originally created to feel like nowhere else in Quake, with winding hallways, geometry and shapes that feel out of this world, and cruel traps and ambushes. The Spiritworld channels this design ethos, and the result was one of the top new releases of 2023. Newhouse and zigi have created a world that feels as foreign as The Elder World was the first time you stepped in, but with new surprises that you never would've thought possible in 1996. The Spiritworld explores what other settings could exist in this realm, leaving the cold blue twisting hallways of The Elder World, and creating an original mix of castles with sickly green fog, underground chasms, and branching out to abstract spaces. 14 levels are included in this pack, including some remixed levels from the original community release in June of 2023, and is well worth the playthrough."
Addons mod description in the 2021 remastered edition of Quake

Spiritworld is a Quake episode initially released on April 6, 2023 by Newhouse & zigi. The original mod can be downloaded here.

The mod is inspired by Quake's fourth episode, The Elder World, with the twists added by the mod Copper.

On November 30, 2023, the mod was added as a downloadable addon for the 2021 Quake remaster, with an interview of its creators following suit.

The addon comprises the levels "Summoning the Spirits", "The Sludge Central", "Elderly Offspring", "Liquid Lobotomy", "Path of the Woodwose", "City of Spirits", "The Family Tree", "Diyu", "Vodou", "Tower of Destiny", "The Nameless Base", "Arcana", "Chthon's Boiler Boogie", "A King or a Ranger?".

This addon and its 2021 remastered edition show examples of:

  • Easter Egg: Next to the switch that activates the pushing field, there's a shootable panel modeled after the one in the original entrance, which says "No well of wishes in this episode".
  • Harder Than Hard: Getting into the Nightmare difficulty level involves shooting a panel in "Summoning the Spirits" left of the slipgate to "The Sludge Central" with a different texture alignment than the rest. Then you have to travel through an area modeled after the entrance to said world in the original Quake's Hub Level, but containing a death pit. Once the entrance to the Nightmare difficulty has been found, a pushing field appears in the void, which sends whoever's on it to the water pool. Emerging from the water pool leads to the Nightmare difficulty portal.
  • Hub Level: "Summoning The Spirits", the obligatory difficulty selection level.
  • Remixed Level: "The Sludge Central" is a remixed version of the original episode's "The Sewage System".
