"Oh, this looks like a nice village... But why is it abandoned?"
"An old, abandoned village lies in front of you, and a large church looms overhead. It appears to have been empty for quite some time, but what caused this? Enter the church and its depths below and find out in Honey, a two map addon by Christian Grawert, a senior level designer at MachineGames, and one of the most renowed Quake mappers under the alias czg. Released in 2012, Honey was an instant hit, and is often seen on best of lists in the Quake community. Honey stays close to the original Quake formula, but allows zombies to be chopped up with the axe, introducing a new way to kill them if you are lacking in rockets. Certain doors are now also gated by explosives, which creates an interesting twist in progression. Honey is definitely a must play, and be sure to stick around after for the thrilling conclusion!"
Addons mod description in the 2021 remastered edition of Quake

Honey is a two-level Quake episode mod originally released on April 1, 2012, by Christian "czg" Grawert (of MachineGames fame).

Stumbling upon a peaceful-looking but abandoned medieval village, the Ranger discovers signs next to the village well indicating to have been poisoned. Journeying into the crypt beneath the village cathedral, he discovers the entire reservoir is contaminated with slime. He henceforth ventures through the Lost Temple to shut off the slime pumps and the Water Supply to reestablish the flow of clean water to the reservoir.

On December 2, 2021, the mod was added as a downloadable addon for the 2021 Quake Remaster, with an interview of its creator following suit.

The addon is comprised of the levels "Ghost Town", "Sheer Hellish Miasma", "Constantly No Respect" and "Sweating Beneath a Big Top".

The addon and its 2021 Remastered edition version show examples of the following tropes:

  • Absurdly Spacious Sewer: The Water Supply, the setting of "Constantly No Respect"; a massive subterranean aqueduct comprised of winding, maze-like stone walkways/corridors & intermittent water reservoirs.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Upon completing the two levels & reestablishing the water supply, Ranger travels through the clean waterway back to the church above. The church's interior is now bathed in an ominous orange fog, almost in anticipation of a boss fight when the door opens... only for the Ranger to be greeted by a gaggle of cartoonish, passive Bedsheet Ghosts.
  • Book Ends: A twisted version of the trope: you enter into a figurative ghost village and re-populate it with literal ghosts.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: In the Credits Gag, at one point, two Ogres enter into two cannons. They're Ogre Acrobats, Ogrobats!
  • Clown Car: Appears as the finale to the circus performance; a tophat-wearing pickup truck covered in clown decals and carrying a mystery box in the rear. Said mystery box endlessly spews forth Spawns.
  • Creepy Cathedral: The largest structure of the Ghost Town and the centrepiece location; the entrances to the addon's two levels are located in the crypt beneath it.
  • Credits Gag: Instead of the usual Quake ending, once you restore the water supply and the ghosts populate the town, you're directed to a circus of sorts that lies just meters away from the village. The attractions include the "Dog and Shambler on a Hot Dog", the Ogrobats (Acrobat Ogres) and the Clowns.
  • Elite Mooks: Certain Ogres can be encountered with an orange glowing orb circling above them, which increases their damage output.
  • Ghost Town: Due to the replacement of water by poison, when Ranger arrives in the area, there are no people around. Becomes this literally once the water supply has been reestablished, as the town is populated with the ghosts of the deceased inhabitants.
  • Hub Level: "Ghost Town" holds access to the other two levels and is the centrepiece of the addon.
  • Kill the Lights: In "Sheer Hellish Miasma" at one point you have to cross a room that has a circle of candles. Entering this room closes the door and darkens the area, trapping you with several Death Knights and a Shambler.
  • Lighter and Softer: The story for this addon is rather silly, and even features friendly ghosts in an abandoned town.
  • Ludicrous Gibs: Unlike in the base game, Zombies can be gibbed with the Axe, even when lying prone.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: An example set during the daylight, upon arriving, Ranger notices that something isn't OK with the village. It turns out the water supply is poisoned.
  • Notice This:
    • The fountain near the beginning of the first level is surrounded with warning signs of the "Do not drink!", "Poison", "Stay away" kind.
    • As indicated by a text popup collecting the Red Armour secret in the church, secret items will occasionally emit a subtle twinkling sound giving away their location. This feature is exclusive to Easy difficulty, however.
  • Shout-Out: The name of the level "Sheer Hellish Miasma" is a reference to the album of the same name by noise musician Kevin Drumm.
  • Temple of Doom: "Sheer Hellish Miasma" takes place in one, appropriately titled "The Lost Temple" in its level hub entrance.
  • Trick Shot Puzzle: Unique to this mod are Rocket Locks; crosshair-shaped switches that only activate when shot at with explosives such as rockets or grenades.
