When Abby's brother Jack inadvertently goes through an anomaly, the team mount a rescue mission...and find themselves in a post-human wasteland, inhabited by futuristic monsters battling amidst the ruins of mankind's civilisation.

  • Anger Born of Worry: Abby gives Jack a piece of her mind, combining this trope, What the Hell, Hero? and "The Reason You Suck" Speech when they finally find him.
Jack: What took you so long? [Abby hits him]
Abby: Becker just gave his life to save you and that's all you can say?!
    Jack: Who's Becker?
Connor: (angrily) He's the man who just took on a pack of killers to save your skin!
    Jack: So?!
Abby: So?! He's dead, and it's your fault, you stupid little-! [Abby breaks down crying and hugs Jack] I thought you were dead!
  • Bad Future: What the team find through the anomaly: a post-apocalyptic world devoid of humans, with future predators and Megopterans fighting over the ruins of civilisation for territory.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: The Megopterans and the giant maggots Jack encounters.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Why Abby is so determined to rescue Jack. Danny, having lost his own kid brother to a creature, sympathises.
Becker: You do realise the kid's almost certainly dead, right?
Danny: It's her brother, she needs to know. In her shoes, I'd feel exactly the same way.
  • Conveniently Timed Distraction: Just as a pack of Future Predators are about to break into the bus the team are hiding in, a swarm of Megopterans emerge from their burning hive and the two species start battling it out, allowing the team to make a break for the anomaly.
  • Cute Monster: Deeply subverted in the form of the baby Future Predators and the Megopteran larvae.
  • Evil vs. Evil: The Megopterans end up fighting it out with the Future Predators when the former intrude on the latter's territory.
  • First Kiss: Connor and Abby have theirs.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: With a pack of Future Predators closing in on them, Becker uses himself as bait to draw them off. Ultimately subverted, as he returns in the nick of time to gun down another predator chasing the group.
  • Humanity's Wake: Mankind is long extinct in the future, with civilisation reduced to clusters of ruins clinging to cliffsides. It's heavily implied the Future Predators and Megopterans hunted mankind to extinction.
Connor: If those things got loose...then humanity never stood a chance.
  • Kick the Dog: Abby angrily accuses Connor of wanting to leave Jack to die when he agrees with Danny and Becker to fall back and get more soldiers to help them search.
  • Kill It with Fire: Noticing the Megopteran hive is inside a building full of paraffin, Danny drops a stick of dynamite inside to set it off.
  • The Load: Jack, who gets himself trapped in the future and does nothing but Complaining About Rescues They Don't Like.
  • Ludicrous Gibs: The first Megopteran the team encounters gets reduced to this when it gets hit by a car at full speed while chasing Danny.
Danny: [covered in future insect gore] Lovely.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Becker guns down a Future Predator about to attack Abby and Connor...and makes enough noise to alert every other creature in the vicinity.
Abby: You've just alerted every predator around for miles!
Becker: Well I didn't have much choice, did I, Abigail?!
    • In a minor one, Sarah ends up locking the anomaly while the team desperately need an escape route after a Megopteran larvae surprises her.
  • Oh, Crap!: Abby coming face to face with a future predator.
    • Jack finding the bodies of two ARC guards the Megopteran has killed...and then the creature itself appears.
    • Sarah (who has a severe phobia of bugs) getting jumped by a Megopteran larvae.
  • Pet the Dog: After the mission, Jck confesses to gambling Rex and a lot of other stuff that Connor's helped him cover up from Abby, and urges his sister to reconcile with Connor. Abby apologising for the hurtful things she said to Connor in the heat of the moment also counts.
  • Sequel Hook: In the debriefing back at the ARC, Danny tells Lester he saw Captain Wilder escorting a mysterious woman through the ruins in the future. They have no idea who the woman is or what's she's doing with Wilder, but they both agree Christine Johnson has to be involved. Lester forbids Danny from trying to find out on his own, insisting he'll try and dig up the truth through proper channels.
  • Too Dumb to Live: The ARC guards stationed at the anomaly site; they hear something rattling around and don't take their guns with them when they go to investigate. They promptly get killed by a Megopteran that evaded the team earlier.
  • Why Are We Whispering?: Becker asks this trope in the future and Abby and Connor explain to him future predators hunt by echolocation, hence any loud noise is bound to attract them.
