Recap / Power Rangers Wild Force S1E16 The Lone Wolf

Go To

Despite being freed from Zen Aku's curse, Merrick refuses to join the Rangers out of guilt. However, he's needed when Master Org creates a powerful Org out of the stolen Animal Crystals.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Badass: Or inversely Adaptational Wimp, as the fact that Merrick was able to destroy Nayzor by slamming him full speed into a large rocknote  either makes Merrick look more powerful than his Sentai counterpart or Nayzor weaker than his.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: "But don't you wanna help Princess Shayla?"
  • Bittersweet Ending: Nayzor is destroyed, the stolen Animal Crystals are returned, and a new Ranger is here, but Merrick refuses to join the team officially and walks off.
  • Defiant to the End: Nayzor against Merrick.
  • Easily Forgiven: The Rangers don't begrudge Merrick at all for the actions of Zen-Aku, saying he wasn't in control of himself. He is quite baffled by such an attitude.
  • Foreshadowing: After Nayzor is destroyed, his crown is all that's left. Though forced to flee, Toxica promises to come back for it later.
  • Forgiveness: Merrick's Zords give him the Lunar Caller, which he interprets as them forgiving him for his prior actions.
  • "Hell, Yes!" Moment: Jindrax and Toxica are actually quite thrilled that Zen-Aku is out of the way since it means they're the only Duke Orgs again.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Quadra Org uses Zord attack moves against the Rangers. The Orgs find this all rather entertaining.
  • Honor Before Reason: Merrick refuses to accept the team's forgiveness and sets out to recover the crystals that he stole while he was Zen-Aku. He refuses to back down even in the face of Quadra Org.
  • Karmic Jackpot: Merrick's insistence on helping the Rangers against Quadra Org leads to his Zords returning and granting him a morpher.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": The reaction to Merrick morphing.
    Toxica: Not another Ranger!
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Merrick delivers one against Nayzor to get back the Animal Crystals. It results in the General Org's death.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After taking down Nayzor, Merrick orders Jindrax and Toxica to leave. Jindrax is only too happy to oblige, telling Toxica to come along.
  • Team Handstack: At the start of the episode, the other Rangers invite Merrick onto the team and do this. However, Merrick can't bring himself to do it, feeling shame for all the ways he endangered them.
  • Tempting Fate:
    Merrick: Give me the crystals!
    Nayzor: Try and take them.
  • This Cannot Be!: "General Nayzor... destroyed?"

Lunar Wolf Ranger

3,000 years ago, after Animus fell against Master Org, Merrick stole the legendary wolf mask and three Wild Zords from Nayzor, and used them to defeat Master Org. However, he did not remove the mask in time and was transformed into the Duke Org Zen-Aku, only for him to be sealed by the five original guardians before he caused trouble.

In the present, Nayzor released Zen-Aku, with no memory of him being Merrick. However, the Rangers freed Merrick from the wolf mask's curse, and he joined them as the Lunar Wolf Ranger.
