Tropes

  • Big Damn Heroes: Fire Heart takes Daggeron to where Jenji is before he fades away.
  • Call-Back: The first thing Necrolai does when she gets Koragg's magic is turn Leelee into a cricket again.
  • Call-Forward: When Piggy shows up, he explains that he just arrived and expects Earth to be crawling with aliens in, say, twenty years. He also manages to predict his lottery win and restaurant.
  • Call It Karma: After Madison says what he did was no better than what Rexigan did, Jenji feels he deserves to fade away.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Jenji takes on Screamer and does well until his time starts to run out.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: According to Daggeron, Jenji was beloved in his home village, which made him hated by King Rexigan. A witch's spell convinced the other cats that Jenji was evil, which led to him getting shunned and banished. He spent some time wandering alone before he met Daggeron.
  • Double-Meaning Title: The Monster of the Week turns people into piles of feathers, including the rangers, resulting in "ranger down."
  • Flashback: Showing how Daggeron and Jenji met, as well as how the latter became a genie. Later, Phineas explains how he found a baby wrapped in a certain blanket.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Jenji mentioning that baby dragons grow into adults very quickly.
    • Nick talking about how he was adopted and was found with a red baby blanket.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason Jenji takes being ignored by the Rangers so hard is because of what Rexigan did to him.
  • Hypocrite: Imperious, who is an Evil Sorcerer, calls out Koragg for relying on magic too much.
  • I Warned You: Daggeron met Jenji while trying to stop him from opening a box. The box contained an evil trap that would suck anyone who opens it into oblivion. Jenji didn't listen and nearly got sucked in, but Daggeron saved him by placing him inside a genie lamp.
  • It's All About Me: Jenji drops Fire Heart off in the forest out of jealousy.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Chip says the bird-themed Monster of the Week has a "fowl mouth," causing Vida to roll her eyes at him.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Jenji when he realizes Fire Heart isn't where he left him. Also in the flashback, when he realizes him being a genie bound to a lamp is because he didn't heed Daggeron's warning.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Madison points out that what Jenji did to Fire Heart is no better than what Rexigan did to him: getting rid of someone who was getting all the attention.
  • Parental Substitute: Phineas finds Fire Heart and pretty much adopts him.
    Fire Heart: Daddy!
  • Race Against the Clock: Jenji can only exist out of his lamp within two hours, he'll fade away forever. He manages to prolong the deadline through force of will, but it's brief.
  • The Reveal: Phineas lets it slip that he saved a baby (Bowen) 20 years ago during Daggeron and Calindor's fight. He explains he took the baby to the human world to get away from the Great Battle and left him somewhere safe.
  • Shadow Archetype: Piggy is what Jenji could be: all alone with his belongings. Of course, Piggy actually likes it that way.
  • Shout-Out: Björk is one possible name Phineas thought of for the dragon.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Nick keeps his baby blanket because it's all he has of his birth parents.
  • True Companions:
Madison: Jenji, why didn't you go back to Rootcore and save yourself?
Jenji: You guys are my family... my only family.
