Tropes

  • Badass Boast: "At last, the Power Rangers! Let me introduce myself: I am the destroyer of your world. I am Imperious, dark wizard of the Underworld."
  • Big Damn Heroes: Jenji growing just as large as Imperious.
  • Call-Back: Leelee saying "You can never find those costumed freaks when you need them!", like how Ernie said "Where's the Power Rangers when you need them?!".
    • A cardboard cutout of a rockstar from an earlier episode shows up again.
  • Cowardly Lion: Jenji by his own admission is scared of actually fighting, but he steps up when the Rangers really need him.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Imperious effortlessly smacks the Rangers and their Megazord around, due to his stronger magic.
(the Rangers transform into the Titan Megazord which, despite the title, is much smaller than Imperious, who promptly kicks it away)
    Imperious: Pathetic!
(the Rangers then try using the Megazord to fly up to Imperious who simply swats it away)
Imperious: [mockingly] Oh look, a flea!
  • Deadpan Snarker: Jenji gets all kinds of zingers, from observing that Xander doesn't wash his hands to mocking Imperious during the fight.
  • Didn't See That Coming: The Rangers are surprised that Udonna and Jenji already know each other.
Xander: I think we can keep him.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Jenji jokingly says the Rangers are welcome to wish for DVDs, but not pirated ones.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: The Rangers quickly get irritated with Jenji's snarks, loopholes, and cowardice, but him helping out when it matters most makes him welcomed to the fold.
  • Forced Transformation: Imperious turns Leelee into a cricket for annoying him.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • The Rangers encounter a certain frog in the cave, and it follows them into the city.
    • Udonna asks Jenji where Daggeron and Bowen are, but he has no idea.
    • Imperious suggesting the Rangers switch sides to know what true power is hints at his Faceā€“Heel Turn backstory.
  • Hope Spot: Xander traps Imperious in some vines. Imperious plays it up as a stinging defeat before effortlessly breaking free.
  • It Amused Me: Imperious openly enjoys kicking the Rangers around. When he starts getting bored, he intends to finish them.
  • Loophole Abuse: Chip asks for 10 wishes for himself and each Ranger, and Jenji obliges, but then nothing else happens. As he says, he granted Chip's wish, but per the earlier agreement about one wish, granting this one nullifies the others. When the Rangers cry foul, he insists it's just the rules. Not that Nick intends to let him off the hook, however.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Necrolai tricks the Rangers into destroying the force field keeping her from getting to Imperious. However...
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Necrolai's plan also results in the Rangers meeting Jenji and later leads to the addition of Daggeron to the team.
  • Parental Substitute: The egg hatches and the dragon inside identifies Claire as his mother.
  • Schmuck Bait: Matching Imperious in height, Jenji does some quick hand motions to distract him.
    Jenji: What's in my hands?
    Imperious: Foolish cat!
Jenji: Wrong! [opens his hands, revealing the Titan Megazord] Power Rangers! [laughs, as the Megazord slashes Imperious in the face and knocks him back]
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Imperious pulls one on Nick.
  • Title Drop: "I wish I wasn't such a little scaredy cat."
  • Unwitting Pawn: The Rangers to Necrolai and Leelee's effort to restore Imperious.
  • Wham Episode: Imperious and Jenji make their debuts.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Madison is terrified of frogs.
  • Worf Barrage: Nick tries the same attack on Imperious that he used to destroy Koragg last time. He deflects it with ease.
