Continuing from last time, the Rangers are desperately trying to push Dark Specter's asteroid off-course, but there just isn't enough power, even with three megazords. When all hope seems lost, Zhane, of all people, arrives just in time to offer his services, with a shiny new Mega Winger Megazord from the rebels of KO-35! The four megazords now push with all their might, and on Earth, the population covers their ears from the sheer force of the asteroid streaking through the sky until...
everything falls silent.
The Earth has been saved!!! The population of Earth explodes in elation and cheering, and the asteroid harmlessly deflects into space, never to be seen again.
Zhane later re-boards the Megaship, and Ashley catches him up on recent events.
Meanwhile, somewhere, the totaled remains of a billion-dollar rocket sit in a desert...
Bulk, Skull, and Prof. Phenomenous pull themselves out of a tattered re-entry parachute, and take stock of their surroundings, wondering what planet they've landed on...
Back in space, Zhane and Andros secretly hitch a ride on a Velocifighter headed back to the Dark Fortress. Upon arrival, the duo sneak through the cargo bay, and subdue and steal the outer casings of a couple of Quantrons, using them as disguises. The two make their way to the bridge, where they see Karone in her command room, none the worse for wear. They reveal themselves, but when Karone turns to face them, her face has been turned ash-white, and augmented with implants similar to Ecliptor's, and she commands Ecliptor to capture them. Andros pleads with Karone to remember who she is. Coldly, she declares herself to be Astronema once again. With no other choice, Andros and Zhane fight off the Quantron guards sent to seize them, and make a hasty exit, with Andros forcing himself to leave Karone/Astronema behind. They steal a couple of Velocifighters, and head back to the Megaship, dejected.
Back with Bulk, Skull, and Phenomenous, the trio finds a pay phone of all things, with a boot in place of the receiver...
- All three: Just like on Earth!
Phenomenous realizes that they never even left Earth. Climbing a hill, they indeed find civilization beyond it.
Unfortunately, their troubles aren't over yet, as a monster, Frightwing, appears, ready to attack, mistaking them for Power Rangers.
Fortunately, D.E.C.A. notifies the real rangers, and they arrive on the scene, to protect the trio, and defeat the monster.
Astronema fires the Satellasers, enlarging Frightwing, while the Rangers call for the Mega Voyager.
The fight picks up, but the monster is too fast for them. Thankfully, Zhane also arrives back on the scene with his Mega Winger, and gives them a boost by transferring his megazord's wings to the Mega Voyager, allowing them to catch up and defeat Frightwing once and for all.
After all is said and done, the Rangers give Bulk, Skull, and Phenomenous a Galaxy Glider lift back to Angel Grove.
Meanwhile, on the Dark Fortress, Darkonda tries to formulate a new plan with Astronema, but given that she is now completely and utterly heartless and evil, she has her own plan, and doesn't need Darkonda's help, whom she kicks off the fortress.
To end the episode, and the two-parter, Andros sadly analyzes what has happened to Karone with D.E.C.A. and Alpha, wondering if he'll ever be able to get through to her, past the implants, one day...
Tropes
- Big Damn Heroes: Zhane arriving with the Mega Winger allows the Rangers to push the asteroid away from Earth.
- Bittersweet Ending: Earth is safe and the Rangers have more firepower, but Karone has been turned back into Astronema.
- The Bus Came Back: Zhane, and he brought his own Zord with him. He'll appear regularly for the rest of the season.
- Call-Back: When told who Astronema really was, Zhane says he knew there was something good about her and alludes to his previous interest in her.
- Dressing as the Enemy: Infiltrating the Dark Fortress, Andros and Zhane knock out a couple of Quantrons and help themselves to the armor to sneak around.
- Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Averted. Once the asteroid threat is over, Darkonda knows that the Rangers will quickly try to rescue Karone and orders the troops to be ready.
- Gut Punch: Andros and Zhane discover that Karone has been forcibly turned back into Astronema.
- "Hell, Yes!" Moment: Civilians cheer wildly, after the Rangers manage to push the asteroid away.
- My Sister Is Off-Limits: Andros really wants to clarify just how many times Zhane went out with his sister. Zhane claims it really wasn't what he's thinking.
- We Will Meet Again: Astronema ejects Darkonda from the Dark Fortress and will kill him if he resists.Darkonda: Go ahead. I've still got a few lives left, but remember, you have only one!
- Wham Shot:
- Another Zord suddenly appearing over the shoulder of the Astro Megazord.
- Karone turning to reveal the addition of mind-suppressing implants on her face, now permanently Astronema.
