Tropes

  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Just as Lizwizard has Carlos on the ropes, Adam pulls a Dynamic Entry.
    • When Adam's failing powers leave him in trouble, Carlos returns the favor in the park and tackles Lizwizard. The other Rangers arrive soon after this.
  • Breather Episode: A one-off focusing on Carlos reuniting with Adam sandwiched in-between Zhane's introductory arc and the upcoming Astronema reveal.
  • The Bus Came Back: Adam Park returns to serve as a mentor to Carlos, helping him through a lapse in confidence and uses the damaged original Power Morpher (supposedly destroyed by Rito in MMPR season three) in spite of Alpha 6's warning that morphing could kill him. To fans' delight, he first declares that it's Morphing Time, morpher in hand, and then calls out "MASTODON!" In a meta sense, this helps explain team-ups that happen in later series, as there is the implication that those powers could be repaired.
  • Continuity Nod: In addition to black, Adam is also wearing green, referencing his color during Zeo and Turbo.
  • Dirty Coward: Lizwizard talks a good game, especially when exploiting his teleportation camouflage abilities. When things start going sideways, he tries to use someone else as a human shield. When things are really bad, he outright runs for it, even when facing a powerless Adam. He's also a pleading mess when Astronema threatens to kill him for his failures.
  • Dynamic Entry: Adam.
  • Heroic BSoD: Carlos has one after accidentally injuring Cassie when fighting Lizwizard. He snaps out of it when Adam risks his life by using a battle-damaged Power Morpher to help Carlos against the monster.
  • Godzilla Threshold: As Carlos is getting beat up by Lizwizard in the park, Adam uses the damaged morpher.
  • I Warned You: Alpha stresses to Adam the dangers of using the damaged Power Morpher. Though Adam later has no choice but to use it, the warning is quickly proven justified.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Carlos has this reaction when he accidentally injures Cassie during the fight with Lizwizard.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: In trying to snap him out of it, Adam reminds Carlos that every Ranger has experienced the kind of self-doubt and guilt that he's feeling right now.
  • Tempting Fate: After smacking around Lizwizard, the morphed Adam remarks this is just like old times. Then the powers start giving out, causing him to convulse.
  • We Will Meet Again: When Carlos intervenes, Lizwizard promises to catch up with Phenomenus another time. After being driven off soon afterwards by Adam, Lizwizard promises to settle up with Carlos.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Adam urges Carlos to just keep running, while he holds off Lizwizard. Carlos complies, but he doesn't get very far away when the fight turns very badly for Adam. Carlos ends up running back and attacking Lizwizard.
  • Wrecked Weapon: The Mastodon Power Morpher is seen with visible charring and cracks, most likely from when Rito destroyed the Thunderzords years ago. While it can still function and allow Adam to morph, doing so puts him through immense pain as the damages create a flux in the stability.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Adam assures Carlos that everyone makes mistakes and suffers from self-doubt.
  • "You!" Exclamation: Lizwizard when Adam interrupts his attack on Bulk, Skull, and Phenomenus.
  • You Have Failed Me: After Lizwizard fails to get Phenomenus and is driven off by Adam, Astronema is prepared to do this. It's only Ecliptor's intervention that convinces Astronema to give Lizwizard one last chance.
