And thus, Ash's Pokémon journey came to an abrupt end.

In one of the oddest incidents the twerps ever found themselves in, they encounter Lily, a Pokémon magician. They decide to help her find the ingredients she needs for a spell that allegedly would allow her to understand Pokémon Speak.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Cursed with Awesome: Ash realizes that being turned into a Pikachu is this after learning the transformation is temporary.
  • End-of-Episode Silliness: How does Ash react to being turned into a Pikachu? Well, once Lily assures him the spell is temporary, he plays with the other Pokémon of the group.
  • Forced Transformation: Ash gets turned into a Pikachu at the end of the episode. Though the spell is said to be temporary.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Lily's reaction when she finds out that she messed up the spell and accidentally turned Ash into a Pikachu.
  • Never Trust a Trailer: The commercial for the episode gave the implication that Ash becoming a Pikachu would be a big part of the plot. It didn't happen until the tail end of the episode.
  • Shout-Out: Lily's name (she was called Leelee in the original) in the dub, and the fact that in the dub, she has a cockney accent, might be a reference to Harry Potter
  • Stopped Reading Too Soon: After seeing that the spell turned Ash into a Pikachu, Lily double checks her book and notices there was another page of instructions to it, which unfortunately is smudged and unreadable.

When the spell intended to read a Pokemon's thoughts ends up turning Ash into a Pikachu, Lily looks back over her spell book, and finds there's another page to the spell...which has become illegible.

How well does it match the trope?
