When Team Rocket attacks Ash and his friends, a brave young Trainer and her flock of Ledyba come to the rescue. Tropes

  • Art Shift: Team Rocket's initial plan is shown in a crude crayon animation.
  • Medium Awareness: When Team Rocket's plan fails in the first minute of the show.
Meowth: We don't usually wash out this early in the episode.
  • Sdrawkcab Speech: James' voice actor Eric Stuart stuck a reversed recording of the line "Leo Burnett and 4Kids are the Devil!" in the scene where James is being chomped by his Victreebel as a protest joke because he was no longer being paid for his voice work in commercials.
  • Shout-Out: Team Rocket does an Antiques Roadshow impersonation to get Arielle's heirloom whistle.
  • Take That!: When James gets his head stuck in his Victreebell, he makes some garbled sounds. This is a backwards recording of him saying "Leo Burnett and 4Kids are the devil!"note . Leo Burnett was the advertising agency with the Pokémon account, and 4Kids was the company producing the US dub. The voice actor, Eric Stuart, wasn't happy with how he was being treated. This has been edited out of some later versions of this episode.
