The one where... Pokémon verges on Cosmic Horror.

While Ash and Brock are busy training for the Pokémon League, they inadvertently uncover a hidden temple containing Pokémon fossils. Misty recalls reading about a hidden city where people used to build temples to honor Pokémon. Could they have stumbled upon the ancient city of Pokémopolis?

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: The giant versions of Alakazam, Gengar, and "Bigglypuff".
  • Behemoth Battle: The Alakazam and Gengar in this episode are about a hundred feet tall.
  • Child Prodigy: Dr. Eve got her PhD at age 8.
  • Everything Sounds Sexier in French: Eve speaks with a French accent.
  • Lost City: Pokémopolis.
  • No Man of Woman Born: The prophecy states no human knows how to stop the two powers of great destruction. It doesn't say anything about Pokémon.
  • No-Sell: The giant Alakazam and Gengar are unaffected by Jigglypuff's song and send it blasting off Team Rocket-style. Fortunately, they are affected by the giant Jigglypuff's song.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: At the end, having endured being absorbed by the giant Gengar, Team Rocket runs away instead of fighting Ash and his friends.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: The giant ancient Alakazam and Gengar were sealed away in two separate cans.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Apparently, even a giant ancient Jigglypuff doesn't take kindly to people falling asleep while it's singing and retaliates with Face Doodling.
