Japanese Title: Kamex's Island

The one where... Jigglypuff ended up in one heck of a spot.

When the twerps find a distressed Wartortle while trying to get a ferry from Cinnabar Island, it leads them to an island where its entire population of Squirtle, Wartortle, and a Blastoise, have fallen asleep. What could have caused such a deep, widespread slumber?

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Continuity Nod: Turns out Ash's Squirtle kept its Cool Shades from its days in the Squirtle Squad. From this episode onward, it puts them back on if it's needed in a leadership role.
  • Crash-Into Hello: The episode is set into motion when Ash and company miss the ferry off Cinnabar Island after colliding with a panicked Wartortle.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: This is probably the only time that Pikachu has trouble understanding another Pokémon's Pokémon Speak, and that he has to call out a teammate of the same species to translate.
    • Maybe not. Wartortle's words may be heavily laced with jargon specific to the Squirtle line which Pikachu had not bothered to learn back then, so he had to call out Squirtle so the obvious emergency can be handled. After this incident Pikachu started to pay attention to species-specific jargon so he could understand such jargon-laced speech easier.
  • Eyelid Pull Taunt: Jessie does this to the twerps. You'd think since she's older than them, she'd know better.
  • Hammerspace: Apparently, Ash's Squirtle keeps his Cool Shades inside his shell.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: Ash's Squirtle puts on the Squirtle Squad Cool Shades so we can tell it apart from the wild Squirtle residents.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Misty says that Jigglypuff's Face Doodling makes them look like cartoon characters.
  • Noodle Incident: Just how Jigglypuff would wind up stuck in one of Blastoise's cannons, is probably a question that's best left unanswered.
  • Oh, Crap!: Misty and Brock's reactions upon realizing Jigglypuff has gotten stuck in one of Blastoise's cannons, which is why the island's residents have been falling asleep.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: Meowth's reaction to seeing Jigglypuff before she sings.
  • Papa Wolf: The Blastoise, upon seeing the Squirtle and Wartortle getting kidnapped by the Rockets, immediately steps into action to save them.
  • Recycled Script: Possibly the first one in the anime, as this episode's premise is similar to “Wake Up, Snorlax!”.
  • Shout-Out
  • Save the Jerk: Despite how often Jigglypuff has subjected them to Forced Sleep and Face Doodling, Ash goes out of his way to save it from being blown-up along with Team Rocket, with him and the others being concerned for its safety.
  • Slept Through the Apocalypse: The Wartortle that led Ash and friends to his island, missed out on how all his friends and Blastoise ended up being put to sleep by Jigglypuff's singing.
  • Super Drowning Skills: At one point, the twerps have to resuscitate Team Rocket after they nearly drown when their Gyrados Sub sinks.
Jessie: What kind of trick are you pulling?
Misty: Don't give us attitude! We just saved your slimy lives!
Jessie: I don't remember asking you to save our lives!
    James: Well, I'm grateful.
Jessie: (slaps James) They're our mortal enemies! How dare you be grateful they saved your life!
    • At the end of the episode, Squirtle rescues Jigglypuff before it can suffer the same fate.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Jessie is not pleased that the twerps saved her from drowning. She even hits James who was grateful.
