Born Dave Wolverton, but more commonly known by the pen name he uses to write Fantasy, David Farland was a Speculative Fiction author who did a lot of things behind the scenes of the genre. As an author, he wrote several short stories, novellas, and novels, and is most known for his The Runelords series of Fantasy novels. As a college professor, he has taught many writers who have come to be prolific in the Speculative Fiction genres, such as Dan Wells and Brandon Sanderson.
He used to teach college, holds Real Life writing workshops, and also taught online courses at http://mystorydoctor.com/

He was also responsible, in part, of convincing publishers to green-light Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
Sadly, on January 14 2022, David Farland perished due to the consequences of a domestic accident (according to his son Spencer, he fell down a set of stairs and suffered a hemorrhagic stroke).
