- "It's a possibility, Swampert. In fact, I can't think of any other reason. Wild Pokemon just don't exhibit such unusual behavior. Are they lashing out at humans in general because of abuse? If that's the case, not all humans are bad. You just have to give us a chance. Do they represent a sector of Pokemon life that despises human occupation? While sometimes it's good to let it all out, they can't expect us or other Pokemon not to retaliate to the danger they hold."—Brock
Quick work is indeed being done. The attacking bird Pokemon have already terrorized much of Zumi Town, dragging into the fray familiar characters who aid in their takedown. Meanwhile, Team Rocket makes good on their promise to poach the Pokemon Team Hectic stole, only to find a surprise waiting for them.
The chapter contains the following examples:
- Badass Bystander: The gentlemanly Rockler was minding its own business until Talonflame became a problem. Rockler proceeds to help itself into the plot.
- The Bus Came Back: Brock left at the end of the Sinnoh arc to pursue a career as a Pokemon doctor. Like Misty, he's returned.
- Canon Welding: Brock is wearing the clothes of his game incarnation in Pokemon Heart Gold And Soul Silver according to Word of God.
- Moral Myopia: Jessie, James, and Meowth are livid to hear how Arbok, Weezing, and Victreebel were put in danger and those all around them were hurt (Victreebel's lover was even implied to be killed for resisting). Granted, they're not as heinous, but the three have done some morally dubious things themselves.
- Sliding Scale of Free Will vs. Fate: Discussed. Aaron and Jacob engage in a philosophical discussion over chess:Aaron: I don’t know, Jacob. Some things can’t be avoided. I mean, don’t you ever look back and think how surreal certain encounters were? It just doesn’t feel natural. Like someone or something is pushing you into that direction.
Jacob: That’s a bit of an extremist’s view, Aaron. Surely, our choices in life make a difference. We aren’t like the pieces on this board. Why do you think there are so few constants in life? - Smart People Play Chess: This chapter has the genius strategist Aaron and the Grade Skipper Jacob playing chess.
- Took a Level in Badass: Following the trend set by Misty's Azumarill, Brock's Marshtomp has become a Swampert and wastes little time taking out Staraptor.
- Wham Episode: The Pokemon Team Hectic captured? Arbok, Weezing, and Victreebel are among them. Victreebel's lover was even heavily implied to have been killed. Team Hectic, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to Tenla.
