"It's too soon for the world to learn that information."

"There's a trainer on it!" "Could that be a child?"

News reporter Gabby and cameraman Ty have snuck into Mossdeep's Space Center, looking for leads on the mysterious destruction of an asteroid above the planet. They end up stumbling upon footage of two legendary Pokémon... and the story of a lifetime.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Ambiguous Gender: The Hoenn trainer appears, but this time is covered up from head to toe, concealing their identity completely. It's, as a result, impossible to tell if it's supposed to be Brendan or May in there.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: Rayquaza is the apex Legendary of Pokémon Emerald, and Mega Rayquaza comes from the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Delta Episode. Its duel with Deoxys also comes from such.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: The Hoenn player character captures Deoxys, admittedly with the assistance of Mega Rayquaza. This means that they also managed to catch Rayquaza, and thus might have had an Olympus Mon helping them back then.
  • Going for the Big Scoop: This trope gives the episode its title.
  • I Surrender, Suckers: Gabby feigns giving up the memory stick containing the video data of Deoxys and Mega Rayquaza, but then suddenly tosses it only to pick it up again while running, in order to get a head start on her getaway with Ty.
  • In Space, Everyone Can See Your Face: Averted with the player character, who is wearing a One-Way Visor on their helmet, so we don't know if it's Brendan or May that's riding Mega Rayquaza.
  • The World Is Not Ready: Said word-for-word by Professor Cozmo, who witnesses Gabby and Ty run off with the aforementioned video data, at the episode's end.
