"The only thing that's awaiting us is nothing but inescapable despair! If you go ahead with this plan, then Primal Kyogre will sink every living thing into the ocean!"
—Aqua Admin Shelly, to Archie, before he uses the Blue Orb to awaken Kyogre

Archie, the leader of Team Aqua, has found Kyogre, intending to wake it up and claim it as his to remake the world in his own image. Shelly protests, her research at the Weather Institute having led her to the conclusion that it's not a good idea. Archie awakens Kyogre anyway...and quickly discovers that wanting is far better than having.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Apocalypse How: Shelly's research led to the conclusion that Primal Kyogre could wreak havoc with the world's climate, potentially putting every dry surface of at least Hoenn underwater, making its awakening a Class 0 at minimum. She’s proven very correct when Kyogre starts wrecking havoc on the world with its powerful weather abilities.
  • Blind Obedience: Archie foolishly expected Kyogre would obey him without hesitation just for waking it up. Boy, was he wrong.
  • Bright Is Not Good: Primal Kyogre is a very colorful Pokémon, but it is fully capable of causing global mass destruction.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Kyogre darting at Archie, as seen in the page image.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: The events of this episode come from Pokémon Alpha Sapphire.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: While Courtney was depicted in "The Vision" as a bit unhinged, Shelly is depicted (at least in the flashbacks) as clinical and scientific. While Courtney only has premonitions of what could happen with Team Magma should they awaken Groudon, Shelly has concrete evidence that suggests Team Aqua's plans with Kyogre are incredibly stupid. Then again, Shelly's actual analogue in Team Magma would be Tabitha, not Courtney.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: While Primal Kyogre is not evil per se, Archie finds out the hard way that commanding a powerful Legendary Pokémon is not as easy as it looks in the games. Such a primordial being cannot and will not be tamed by just any human who stumbles upon it.
  • Exact Words: Archie instructs Primal Kyogre to "destroy everything." It obliges to Gone Horribly Right levels.
  • Fanservice: Both Shelly and Archie's outfits. Shelly's is tight and revealing on her curvy frame, while Archie's somehow manages to show off every individual muscle on his Heroic Build quite lovingly.
  • Flying Seafood Special: Primal Kyogre can fly.
  • For Doom the Bell Tolls: Invoked. The bell at the beginning of the Weather Trio's battle theme sounds more distant and ominous than its counterparts in the games. It also rings eight times instead of four, continuing after the rest of the instruments start up until the Ominous Latin Chanting kicks in.
  • Hostile Weather: Kyogre causes a storm of biblical proportions with driving rain, hurricane-force winds, and tornadoes bearing down on the land.
  • Large Ham: Archie is the hammiest character depicted thus far.
  • Mega Maelstrom: The island that Mossdeep City is situated on gets surrounded by them, and they're all miles wide. The resulting currents are able to drag Water Pokémon away.
  • Mighty Roar: Kyogre lets out a deep roar as it activates its Primordial Sea ability.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Archie realizes that Shelly was right about the threat Primal Kyogre truly poses to the world once informed of what's happening by Matt. Archie tries to stop Kyogre's rampage, to no avail.
  • Oh, Crap!: As shown by the flashback, Shelly had one when she saw the Weather Institute data. Becomes a Mass "Oh, Crap!" when Matt contacts Archie about how far out of hand things have gotten.
  • Ominous Latin Chanting: Kyogre's apocalyptic rampage is punctuated with this.
  • Only Sane Woman: Shelly was the only member of the team who knew Archie's actions would lead to destruction and desperately tried to warn him. Sadly, he didn't listen to her.
