Blue busts in for an assault on the Elite Four.

Blue, Professor Oak's grandson, has made it to the Indigo Plateau. He battles his way through the Elite Four to become the Pokémon Champion.

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: The identity of the "challenger" is initially unstated, which can give one the impression its supposed to be Red.
  • Call-Forward: This episode could be a prequel to Pokémon Origins "File 4: Charizard", where Red defeats Blue to become Kanto Pokémon Champion himself.
  • I Am Not My Father: Blue bristles when Agatha brings up Professor Oak.
Agatha: Since you're the grandson of that old coot, I thought you'd be completing the Pokédex.
Blue: Don't you compare me with that old man!
  • Knuckle Cracking: Bruno does this at the prospect of facing a challenger after a long time.
  • Large Ham: Bruno, Agatha and Lance all act like this when facing Blue. Averted with Loralei, who comes off more as a mix of Smug Snake and Deadpan Snarker.
  • This Cannot Be!: Bruno's reaction to his Machamp having been defeated by Blue's Pidgeot without much effort.
  • Unusual Euphemism: "I will smash your ice into a million pieces!"
  • Worthy Opponent:
    • Agatha and Lance seem to regard Blue as one of these, contrasting with Bruno (who responded with disbelief) and Loralei (who was annoyed at him).
    • And Blue himself, understandably, regards Red as this at the end.
