Recap / Phineas And Ferb Wheres Pinky

Go To

Perry the Platypus and Pinky the Chihuahua team up to stop Dr. Doofenshmirtz from stealing the deed to the Tri-State Area. They also have to avoid getting their cover blown when Phineas and Ferb help Isabella track down Pinky with a high-tech helmet that enhances Buford's senses. Meanwhile, Candace is distracted from her lunch date with Jeremy when she gets shanghaied into a mandatory tour of City Hall.

Tropes

  • Actually Quite Catchy: Candace is bored by the tour, but then the tour guide begins singing and she gets into it.
  • And Your Little Dog, Too!: Doof, having not met Pinky before, refers to him as Perry's "little dog, too".
  • Brick Joke: When Don the tour guide runs off with the dog helmet and the deed to the Tri-State Area, the piece of paper with the rimshot appears on screen.
  • But Thou Must!: The city hall tour is mandatory, with no way to get out.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Played with. Major Monogram says that Pinky is "good with computers". He is good... at using them as weapons (which is what he does to Dr. Doofenshmirtz).
  • Cloudcuckoolander: The tour guide is revealed to be one as it turns out he doesn't actually work at City Hall and believe he was sent there by aliens to inform everyone about the city.
  • Continuity Nod: The "spontaneous musical numbers" wing contains dioramas depicting scenes from the songs "Ain't Got Rhythm" and "Impress My Professor".
  • Crowd Song: The tour guide says that Danville is noted for its spontaneous musical numbers.
  • Delusions of Doghood: The helmet that Phineas and Ferb made to help find Pinky gives Buford the heightened smell of a dog. It also somehow makes Buford act like a dog.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: When the tour guide announces the rules for the tour, the last thing he says is, "And absolutely no crossing the stanchions, please! ¡No cruzar la cuerda por favor!" in the manner of the safety spiels in the Disney parks. It also should be noted that his voice actor, Wayne Brady, is very fluent in Spanish.
  • Invisibility Cloak: Doofenshmirtz's Blend-Into-The-Background-Inator is designed to render him virtually invisible, allowing him to sneak past the City Hall desk and get into the archives.
  • Irony: Baljeet lampshades the fact that City Hall has a doggy door even though dogs aren't allowed in the building.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Buford quips that he always thought City Hall only served subpoenas. When no reaction is heard, he says, "What's a guy gotta do to get a rimshot around here?"
  • Look Behind You: Candace insists she knows plenty about zombies, so Ferb pulls this on her.
  • Lured into a Trap: Doof points out that Perry might have noticed he forgot to trap him, but this is because he and Pinky are already trapped by bureaucracy.
  • Mailman vs. Dog: While wearing the dog helmet, Buford sniffs something and says, "Oh, that better not be the mailman!"
  • Needle in a Stack of Needles: When Doofenshmirtz grabs the deed to the Tri-State Area, Pinky kicks him, causing him to drop it; it then falls in a pile with a bunch of other historic documents, and Doofenshmirtz has to sort through them all to find it.
  • No Animals Allowed: Dogs are not allowed in city hall.
Bureaucrat: (to Perry) Oh, please don't tell me you brought your dog!
  • The Password Is Always "Swordfish": The password that Doof guesses is "Reindeer Flotilla", which is also the password from TRON.
  • Patter Song: "The History of the Tri-State Area".
  • Rimshot: Buford requests a rimshot after a bad joke, and Baljeet walks off. After another bad joke by Buford, Baljeet is at the drums giving the rimshot. Major Monogram also asks for a rimshot after a bad joke, which is given to him in the form of a flyer with the picture of a snare drum and the words "Ba-Dum-Crash".
  • Shout-Out:
  • Special Guest: Wayne Brady voices Don the tour guide.
  • Take a Number: Doofenshmirtz traps Perry and Pinky with bureaucracy. Since he has an invisibility cloak and they don't, they will be forced to take a number and wait in line before getting into the archives.
  • That Reminds Me of a Song: Lampshaded; The City Hall tour has an exhibit devoted to Danville's spontaneous musical numbers, and the tour guide goes into one himself.
  • They Have the Scent!: Isabella rubs one of Pinky's chew toys on Buford in order to give him Pinky's scent: It works... but Buford gets distracted by the mailman.
  • Verbal Backspace: When Doofenshmirtz is sorting through the documents:
Doofenshmirtz: Let's see, The Declaration of Independence, the Magna Carta, the Deed to the Tri-State... I mean, the Mayflower Compact.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: The beginning has the gang attending Gretchen's "bi-monthly zombie apocalypse preparedness lecture".
