Recap / Phineas And Ferb Suddenly Suzy

Go To

Candace babysits her biggest enemy, Little Suzy Johnson, who helps her bust the boys. Meanwhile, Doofenshmirtz invents a Carbon Footprint-inator to increase his carbon footprint (literally).

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: As soon as Jeremy leaves Candace alone with Suzy, she does her usual evil laugh, and then begins to threaten Candace with a "game". Of making... paper... DOLLS!
  • Banana Peel: A variation on the classic banana peel gag. The semi truck that Perry's driving has a giant banana on the roof of the trailer; Perry stops below the Carbon-Footprint-inator and drops the banana, causing the Inator to slip on it and stick itself into Doofenshmirtz's blimp.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Candace and Suzy both say Isabella's "Whatcha dooooin'?" during the episode. Isabella is not very happy about it.
Isabella: Ugh! Do I even need to be here?!
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Tuff Gum Buford sticks to the top of Phineas and Ferb's waterfall ends up getting stuck to the Carbon-Footprint-Inator, taking away Phineas and Ferb's invention of the day.
  • Delayed "Oh, Crap!": In the beginning, Candace is lovingly talking with Jeremy on the phone and doesn't realize until too late that she agreed to babysit Suzy.
    Candace: Hello, Jeremy!
Jeremy: Hi, Candace. I was wondering if you could do me a favor?
    Candace: (dreamy voice) Yeeeaaahhh...
Jeremy: Listen, I got called into work and my parents aren't home, do you think you could look after Suzy for a few hours?
    Candace: Yeeeaaahhh...
Jeremy: I'll be right over. Thanks!
Candace: Yeeeaaahhh — (realizes) Huh?! Uh, wait, what did you say?! Jeremy?! NO!! JEREMY!!!
  • Door Judo: Perry leaps at Doofenshmirtz to attack him, but Doofenshmirtz simply avoids him and opens one of the windows to his blimp, causing Perry to fall down. Luckily, Perry is equipped with a parachute as always.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Suzy acts this way toward Candace in order to teach her the art of manipulation.
  • Hero Stole My Bike: Played with. Perry lands nearby a parked truck belonging to a banana shipping company, so he applies for a job at the company so that he can ride the truck and chase Doofenshmirtz.
  • Literal-Minded: Doofenshmirtz says that he has heard people talking about reducing their carbon footprint (which means making environmentally friendly choices). Doofenshmirtz doesn't know what it means, but it sounds evil, so Doofenshmirtz decides to create a giant foot made of carbon paper to leave actual giant carbon footprints all over the Tri-State Area.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: Parodied when Candace hides anything that could potentially be used as a murder weapon before Suzy arrives.
  • Nightmare Face: Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and those who don't identify as either, I give you... Creepy Candy. Good luck sleeping tonight, folks.
  • Overly Preprepared Gag: Perry lands at a banana delivery service, applies for a job as a truck driver so that he can chase after Doofenshmirtz, and then there's an entire musical number about it. This all seems completely random and nonsensical until the Carbon-Footprint-Inator slips on the giant banana and falls.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Suzy is revealed to be one. She only torments Candace whenever Jeremy is present, and she's willing to help Candace when he's absent.
  • Shout-Out: The mud flaps on the truck that Perry drives has an image of Perry as a pirate with the words "BACK OFF!" written underneath. This is a parody of similar mud flaps that feature Yosemite Sam.
  • Spanner in the Works: If Buford hadn't stuck the Tuff Gum to the top of the water slide, the Carbon Footprint-inator wouldn't have picked it up in the first place.
  • Suspiciously Apropos Music: By a sheer coincidence, the manager of Mr. Banana happened to write a song about a truck-driving platypus.
Mr. Banana manager: Hmm? Hmm? Wait! My demo!
  • Tempting Fate: The farmer's wife returns, this time berating her husband for selling the miniature golf course and starting up a spring water bottling plant in the middle of the city, exclaiming, "What, did you expect a mountain spring to just fall out of the sky?" Cue Phineas and Ferb's giant waterfall, well, falling right behind them.
Farmer: You've never believed in me.
  • Theme Tune Cameo: Somehow, Carl is able to play "doo bee doo bee doo bah" on his one whisker on his cheek.
Major Monogram: Carl, you disgust and fascinate me.
  • This Billboard Needs Some Salt: The giant banana that is fixed on top of Perry's banana delivery truck apparently acts like a real banana, slipping Doofenshmirtz's Carbon-Footprint-inator when it steps on it.
  • Xtreme Kool Letterz: "Tuff Gum", whose slogan is "For Guys Who Can't Spell". Like the song sez...
    Pound nerds like a drum
Stop a train with your thumb
    It's TUFF GUM!
