Recap / Phineas And Ferb Put That Putter Away

Go To

Phineas and Ferb builds a mini-golf course and Stacy tries to bust them for Candace, who is sick in bed.

Meanwhile, Dr. Doofenshmirtz buys a house from the suburbs and tries to take a day off from being evil, but his neighbor Phil gets on his nerves.

Tropes

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Candace sends Stacy to find out what her brothers are doing and bust them, but Stacy keeps getting caught up in the coolness of the brothers' golf game instead.
  • Bizarre and Improbable Golf Game: An awesome one made by Phineas and Ferb, with courses themed around things such as air hockey, shooting ranges, labyrinths, and disco.
  • By "No", I Mean "Yes": When Monogram talks to Perry about his request for vacation time.
Monogram: We're ready to approve it, but there's one small problem. And by "small problem, I mean "big problem", and by "approve it", I mean "deny it".
  • A Day in the Limelight: This is the first episode that puts Stacy front and center.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Doof's Atomic Leaf-Blower-Inator is so powerful that it causes him to fly uncontrollably into the sky.
  • Gratuitous Disco Sequence: The final hole of the minigolf course is disco-themed, with the number "Disco Miniature Golfing Queen" playing as everyone dances together and clears the hole.
  • Hand Gagging: Candace does this to Stacy three times in the episode to silence her, which is most likely the reason why Stacy ends up getting sick by the end.
  • The Illegible: Candace apparently has writing comparable to drawings of dancing weasels. Stacy even points out that she needs to work on her penmanship.
  • I Meant to Do That: When Doof first turns the Atomic Leaf-Blower-Inator on, it pushes him into the ground and lifts all the leaves out of his tree as he screams "Turn it off! Turn it off!". When he does finally turn it off, he stands up and says, "Good, just like I planned!"
  • Insistent Terminology: As the characters point out multiple times throughout the episode, miniature golf is not just "golf in miniature".
  • Mini-Golf Episode: Phineas and Ferb build their own miniature golf course, since the one they used to frequent, Little Duffers, just went out of business.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: The Scottish owner of Little Duffer's says that the Scotsman in him says to be strong and keep going, but then suddenly gains an Irish brogue, saying that on the other hand, he is half-Irish.
  • Pulled from Your Day Off: Perry enters his lair rather rundown, with some stubble, wearing a bathrobe, and holding a cup of coffee while a slow version of his theme plays. As he enters his lair, Monogram tells him he is about to approve his request for vacation.
Major Monogram: But there's one small problem. And by "small problem," I mean "big problem." And by "approve it," I mean "deny it."
  • Roundabout Shot: There's a short one with Stacy and Phineas during the disco dance sequence.
  • Separated by a Common Language: Doofenshmirtz listens to an audiobook of Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer translated into "evil".
Narrator: Chapter one. "Tom Sawyer's dislike of Aunt Polly was rivaled only by his hatred of puppies."
  • Shout-Out: The song "Disco Miniature Golfing Queen" is clearly based on ABBA's "Dancing Queen".
  • Sick Episode: Candace spends the whole episode sick and by the end, Stacy gets sick too.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Both Stacy and Phineas describe Candace's handwriting as looking like "dancing weasels".
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Buford says he was looking forward to "burying [Baljeet] on the fairway", and Baljeet asks if he meant metaphorically. The camera then pans back to Buford holding a shovel and promptly hiding it behind his back and saying, "Oh, yeah, right."
  • Tempting Fate: The farmer's nagging wife from "Leave the Busting to Us!" returns, chastising the mini-golf course owner for never upgrading his course and yelling, "What did you think? A shiny new miniature golf course would just fall out of the sky?" Cue Phineas and Ferb's mini-golf course falling right behind them.
Owner: You'd be surprised what falls out of the sky in Danville.
