Recap / Phineas and Ferb "Chez Platypus"

Go To

After going to a fancy restaurant that serves tiny proportions, Phineas and Ferb decide to start a trendy restaurant, becoming all the rage in Danville. Meanwhile, Dr. Doofenshmirtz invents a De-Love-Inator that will eliminate all feelings of romance within the Tri-State Area, but decides to hold off using it since he has a date at... you guessed it, Chez Platypus.

Tropes:

  • Bad Date: Zig-zagged for Doof; he was suspicious of his date at first and thought that they wouldn't work out, but turns out she's also evil like him, and they both hit it off until Doof's De-Love-inator crashes and zaps her, making her feel nothing for him anymore. Inverted for Candace and Jeremy; their trouble comes mainly due to Buford the bouncer not letting them in.
  • Bouncer: Buford takes on the role of the hardass bouncer who only lets people in if they are on the list. Though he is willing to make exceptions for bribes.
Buford: He didn't bribe me. He just caught my attention in a monetary fashion.
  • Chez Restaurant: The titular Chez Platypus.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Don't Explain the Joke: In the flashback at the fancy restaurant, Phineas snarks that he wants to borrow his stepfather's glasses because he can't see his food. Because it's so small. Lawrence already got the joke.
  • Duet Bonding: "Happy Evil Love Song".
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Candace and Jeremy do get to have a romantic dinner at the end of the episode.
  • Fancy Dinner: With small portions; the boys' frustration with this is why they start the restaurant.
  • Hammerspace: Buford apparently keeps a velvet rope with him at all times. Where does he hide it?
    Buford: I'll never tell.
  • Haute Cuisine Is Weird: The day before this episode, the Flynn-Fletcher family visited a trendy restaurant that served tiny portions (with Phineas jokingly asking to borrow his dad's glasses in order to see his food). As such, Ferb is still hungry the following morning. It inspires the boys to open a restaurant that is both trendy and serves decent portions.
  • Hipster: Candace is reluctant at eating at her brothers' restaurant, until she overhears a hipster couple speak about how "trendy" platypus restaurants are. Later, the same hipster woman notes a new badger restaurant opening down the street.
  • I Meant to Do That: After Perry accidentally gets his foot stuck in the door, Doofenshmirtz notes that Perry's basically trapped... "Just like I planned. Obviously."
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Doof's date looks a lot like voice actress, Sheena Easton.
  • Insistent Terminology: After Doofenshmirtz manages to get in Chez Platypus by bribing Buford:
Candace: Did that guy just bribe you?!
Buford: He didn't bribe me. He just caught my attention in a monetary fashion.
  • No Name Given: Doofenshmirtz's date. Many fans call her Lisa; Swampy prefers to call her Sue.
  • "Open!" Says Me: Subverted. Agent P tries, but due to the locks being reinforced and not the door, his foot gets stuck.
  • Restaurant-Owning Episode: The boys open a restaurant called Chez Platypus.
  • Special Guest: Sheena Easton provides the speaking and singing voice of Doof's unnamed evil-loving date.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Perry kicks Doof's door and gets his foot stuck in it, literally. Doof makes note of how he reenforced the locks but not the door. He attempts get him out, but he can't, and just accepts it as his trap for the day.
  • Villain Love Song: Doof and his date sing a number titled "Happy Evil Love Song", after realizing that they are both evil.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Doof finally has a lover by episode's end...then she gets zapped by the De-Love-inator satellite, and she feels nothing for him.
