Recap / Paradise PDS 02 E 08 Operation DD

Go To

Operation: D.D. comes to fruition and Paradise P.D. infiltrates Fitz/The Kingpin's lair to stop it, with the help of Karen and the in cognito hero, Thester Carbomb IV. Meanwhile, Agent Clappers opts out of the plans, when he learns that it involves nuclear weapons, only to be pulled back in, when Fitz/The Kingpin threatens to harm his family ... portrait!

  • Anything but That!: Fitz threatens Agent Clappers that if he quits his team he's going to destroy his family ... photo!
  • Brain Uploading: Kevin uses Dr. Kuzniak's brain device to transport inside of Fitz's brain.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Several jokes break the fourth wall.
    • Randall tells Karen that she missed the entire crossover with Brickleberry and Karen says that she doesn't care, as the crossover wasn't with Big Mouth.
    • Kevin tries to get the Brickleberry park rangers to come back but Randall says that they could only license them for the one episode. Following that, a cast of knockoff characters from "Bronkleberry" shows up.
    • Randall calls out the stupidity of the episode's plot and asks Karen if she was involved with writing it just like she was involved in the writing for the finale of Game of Thrones.
  • Callback: Several callbacks to previous Season 2 episodes are utilized in this episode.
    • Kevin keeps Dr. Kuzniak's brain device from "Paradise P.D. Meets Brickleberry" with him and later uses it to transport himself inside of Fitz's brain.
    • Dusty is tazed to death so that he can go to Hell and possess the body of a horse and fight villains in his new body, as previously seen in the episode "Flip the Vote".
    • The Dolphin Queen is now an unofficial member of The Legion of Dooooom, after marrying Fitz in "Flip the Vote".
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with the entire city of Paradise getting turned into a giant pizza. The fates of all the characters are left unexplained until Season 3.
  • Death Is Cheap: Gina tazes Dusty to death and back.
  • Don't Celebrate Just Yet: Dobby performs a Heroic Sacrifice to detonate the nuclear missile and save the city, with everyone cheering and Randall shedding a tear. Except, there were actually two missiles, and the other one hits the city and blows it up.
  • Embarrassing Middle Name: Kevin's middle name is given as Pubesalad in this episode. Although it could be worse; Randall and Karen originally wanted his middle name to be something else but the doctor forbade it because it was a racial slur.
  • Exposition: This episode gives us a full explanation of the Gerald Fitzgerald/Kingpin story, told via flashback, narrated by Thester. As it turns out, Fitz is actually a good guy. He used to be a heroic cop in Chicago until one day, when he faced off against a criminal known as The Kingpin. The Kingpin caused an explosion that killed himself and all of the hostages that Fitz was trying to save. The only survivor was Fitz but he got PTSD from the incident, which, on top of his already existing multiple personality disorder, caused him to develop an alternate persona, which was a copy of The Kingpin who, over time, would take over his body until the events of "Christmas in Paradise", when he completely dominated Fitz.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Despite being heinous, murderous supervillains, The Legion of Dooooom strongly stands against sexual harassment.
Frank: You may think that we are monsters, and yes that may be true but one thing we believe in is #MeToo.
  • Forgot About His Powers: The cops of Paradise P.D. run away in terror from Thester because he might have a gun. Karen reminds them that as cops, they all have guns.
  • Good All Along:
    • Thester Carbomb IV is revealed to have actually been a good guy, pretending to be Fitz's henchman as a way of infiltrating his team and defeating him.
    • More surprisingly, Fitz was actually good all along. The Kingpin was just an alternate personality that took over his core personality.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Upon learning that nuclear weapons are involved with their evil plan, Agnet Clappers opts out of The Legion of Dooooom and fights against Fitz.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Dobby flies his helicopter straight into a nuclear missile and kills himself to save Paradise.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Karen points out the monotonous nature of adult animated sitcoms ripping each other off and using the exact same style of comedy in all of their shows when she calls Brickleberry "Family Guy in the woods", which is especially ironic, given Paradise PD is basically just Brickleberry but with cops.
  • I Can Change My Beloved: Karen and Randall realize how shitty they were to Kevin, when looking through his mentally scarring memories of them verbally abusing him as a child and feel deep and legitimate remorse for how they've been and vow to change the way they treat him for the better. Of course, it doesn't last.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: The Legion of Dooooom does not condone sexual harassment and claims to support the #MeToo movement. However, at least three members of the team contradict this, when they sexually harass people.
Fitz: It's about time we get a sexual harassment seminar here. I don't stand for sexual harassment. Now get your tight, sweet asses to HR.
  • Info Dump: Thester provides an explanation on the backstory of the Fitzgerald/Kingpin scenario, as mentioned in "Exposition".
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Gina does this, when infiltrating Fitz' Lair, but with her own name.
    Gina: GINAAAAAAAAA JABOWSKI!!!!!!
Dusty: ... That bitch just ran in.
  • Shoddy Knockoff Product: The Bronkleberry National Plerk Rangers.
Randall: God damn these lawyers. He can't even say "Park"!
  • Strawman Political: Robby and Delbert act like strawman republicans.
Bullet: You guys get to the bomb shelter! Fitz has turned this town into a giant pizza!
Delbert: And what evidence do you have to support that claim?
Bullet: Oh, nothing. It's just that your dick deep in pizza sauce right now.
Robby: Oh, so now you libtards expect us to believe our own eyes?
  • Take That!: Although the crossover with Brickleberry ended, the jokes still live on.
Karen: [wakes up with a hangover] Ugh, what happened?
Randall: You got blackout drunk and missed the whole crossover.
Karen: [excitedly gasps] With Big Mouth!?
    Randall: No. Brickleberry.
Karen: [disappointed] Oh. Family Guy in the woods? Blah.
  • Uncertain Doom: Agent Clappers jumps off the building to kill himself. He lands on the ground offscreen and a puddle of red liquid splashes up. It is uncertain whether this was supposed to be his blood or if it was the pool if pizza sauce he landed in.
  • Weapon of Mass Destruction: Fitz has two nuclear bombs set to fire at Paradise.
