Recap / Paperinik New Adventures S 1 E 14 Urk

Go To

A series of misterious abductions in Duckburg cause the police and Paperinik to work overtime, while Lyla picks up some weird case of tachyon decay. The two join forces to find the two criminals, that might be only one... or not.

Tropes In This Issue:

  • Alternate Universe: From where Urk and the creatures come from.
  • Asshole Victim: The leader of the Rock and Roll Gang is one of the kidnapped people.
  • Benevolent Precursors: Urk's people received knowledge of medicine and science from aliens, which are implied to be their universe's version of the Evronians.
  • Continuity Nod: The Rock and Roll Gang from "Trauma" is back.
    • The events of "The Day of The Cold Sun" are referenced, particoulary the fact that the Othership is what creates the tear that brought Urk and the creature in Paperinik's world.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Paperinik's first confrontation with Urk results in this for our poor hero.
  • Fish out of Water: Urk comes from another dimension, so this is unavoidable.
  • Forever War: The Vikings and the Native Americans have been fighting for over 200 years in Urk's world.
  • Let's You and Him Fight: During their first fight Paperinik mistakes Urk for the kidnapper, and Urk blames him for letting the creature capture another innocent.
  • Life Drain: The creature devours the time of its victims, rendering them older and older.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: The kidnapped victims are 15 people and... a dog.
  • No Name Given: The creature: which makes sense, since it is a bioweapon and wasn't even self aware until the dimension hop.
  • No-Sell: Being a droid, Lyla is immune to the creature's life-absorbing powers.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Despite being so buff, Urk is in no way slow or goofy: best shown when he saves his coworker from a fall.
  • Power Trio: Paperinik, Urk and Lyla form quite an effective team. Pity we get to see them like this only one more time during the series.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: The Rock gang is out to find the misterious kidnapper not out of kindness, but because it is bad for their business: people stay locked in their homes as soon as the sun goes down (meaning there is nobody to rob) and there is an army of policemen around.
  • Shapeshifter: The creature obtains this power.
  • Stylistic Suck: The art for this issue is... less that good,in stark contrast with that of the previous issue. The artist admitted to drawing this inbetween other projects and to be honest, it shows.
  • Took a Level in Dumbass: Inverted: the trip to another universe made the creature smarter, to the point it can talk.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: The Time Police tells Urk that they don't have the tecnology to travel to other dimensions, and therefore he is stuck in our reality.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Since it feeds on time, the creature is extremely vulnerable to the temporal paralyzer of the Extransformer shield.
