After hitting the road with Felix, Sarah is forced to turn to a ghost from her past – an old flame named Cal Morrison. When their brief respite is brutally shattered, Sarah realizes that no matter how far she runs, it will never be far enough.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Amicable Exes: Averted. Cal is still extremely angry at Sarah for stealing his money and his car when they broke up. He warms up to her as the episode progresses.
  • And Now You Must Marry Me: A forced wedding (complete with a Bridal Carry!) of sorts is performed between Henrik and Helena. Could also qualify as Old Man Marrying a Child.
  • Becoming the Mask: Delphine's comment of "It's not fake. Not for any of us." regarding monitors, their care for their charges, and the hope of curing the clones' illness seems to imply that most monitors care for the clones they're paired with. Given that this keeps them invested, it's likely intentional on DYAD's part.
  • Break the Cutie: Jennifer documents her trials through video diaries. Cosima becomes very distraught watching it.
  • Cliffhanger: Several. Sarah and Daniel's car is broadsided by another vehicle, a drunk Alison falls off the stage, and Henrik carries off Helena to consummate their marriage.
  • Con Man: Sarah and Felix's Street Smarts get put on display when they shoplift a convenience store using Kira as bait.
  • Disappeared Dad: Cal is Kira's father. Sarah also admits her issues with this.
  • Double Tap: After wounding the cop, Daniel puts two more into his head to finish him off.
  • Dude, She's Like in a Coma: Henrik marries a mostly unconscious Helena and carries her off to consummate. We later learn that Helena was under sedation, and the "consummation" was actually harvesting her eggs.
  • Face Plant/The Pratfall: Alison at the theater.
  • The Fundamentalist: Grace is uncomfortable around Helena because she's a clone, "barely even human".
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Cal was an inventor before his partners forced him out and sold his technology to the military.
  • Genre Savvy: Alison sees right through Angie's undercover cop routine...
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Alison starts knocking them back even more than usual before her performance.
  • Ironic Echo: Helena, when told by Grace that Henrik wants her to join their "family", repeats the same thing Sarah said before she shot her.
    "I've already got a family."'
  • Larynx Dissonance: Cosima briefly imitates Leekie.
"I'm gonna put an electic eel in one of these tubes. He'll be like, 'Great Scott, I've created life itself!'"'
  • Last-Second Word Swap: Alison, when Angela sneaks up on her.
    "Holy fffffishsticks."
  • Luke, You Are My Father: Kira figures it out almost before the audience does.
  • Mood Whiplash: Sarah, Kira, and Cal share a lovely afternoon together before Daniel shows up tries to kidnap Sarah and Kira at gunpoint.
  • Oh, Crap!: Felix has this reaction when the owner of the house they broke into, Cal, returns home.
    • Sarah and Cal when they hear Kira screaming for help.
  • Pet the Dog: Cal lets Sarah and co. stay at his place another night because he doesn't want to kick Kira out on the streets.
  • Posthumous Character: Jennifer Fitzsimmions succumbed to her illness three days before Cosima saw her video diaries.
  • Road Apples: After spending the night in a cow pasture, Felix jumps out of the back of the truck - and lands square in a cow turd. Sarah thinks it's hilarious. Fee - not so much.
  • Scarily Competent Tracker: Daniel finds the Birdwatchers' hideout, the convenience store, and Cal's farm.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Felix gets fed up with Sarah's schemes and hitchhikes back home.
  • Sex with the Ex: Sarah and Cal.
  • Spiteful Spit: Helena does this when she hears that Tomas is gone.
  • Sterility Plague: Delphine and Cosima conclude that tumor growth in the uterus is the cause of the clones' infertility.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Angie is disgusted by Art's apparent disinterest in the case.
    • Felix calls Sarah out for lying about not knowing who Kira's father was. He admits he's tired of getting tangled up in her schemes and hitchhikes back home alone.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Kira displays great understanding of the situation even though Sarah and Felix try to preserve her innocence.
