Piper struggles to adapt to life after Litchfield. Alex promises to keep her nose clean. Daddy's infidelity angers Daya.
This episode provides examples of the following tropes:
- Auto Erotica: Aleida and Cesar are reintroduced having sex in the back of her car.
- Batman Gambit: Alex's phone smuggling plan involved getting Taystee to get pissed enough to beat on Badison, especially after finding out her appeal got denied.
- Broken Record: Grapes going around the yard asking everyone for drugs.
- Burger Fool: Since getting out of prison, Piper is now working as a waitress in a Thai restaurant called Thunder Thais. She'll even cover the dishwasher's shift just so she can see Alex in visitation. She's fired on the way to see Alex in visitation.
- Calvinball: The dishwasher at Piper's nee job, Thunder Thais, is in a sport called pickleball, which is described as "badminton meets ping-pong meets tennis."
- Eat the Evidence: When an inmate dies from drugs, Hellman makes Alex swallow a condom full of heroin.
- Evil Power Vacuum: Since Carol and Barb's deaths last season, Badison and Daddy have taken over each block's businesses.
- Klingon Promotion: Unintentionally. Daya spikes Daddy's heroin as payback for sleeping with Damiva, but she dies. In the next few episodes she takes Daya's spot as head dealer of the block.
- Oh, Crap!: Taystee has this reaction on hearing Alex's smuggled phone ring in her cell, quickly hiding it in a box of Ritz crackers.
- Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome: Daddy is one of the inmates who died from the spiked heroin.
- Troubled Fetal Position: Red spends her time in SHU in this position.
