"Bed Bugs and Beyond" is the second episode of the third season of Orange Is the New Black.
Litchfield deals with a bedbug infestation. Alex tries to figure out why she's back inside. Piper admits the truth. Aleida meets with Mendez' mother, who makes her an offer; Daya is unsure at first. Caputo gets some bad news. Bennett meets with Cesar and sees the environment where the baby might grow up.

- Aesop Amnesia: After being called out by Red for her sociopathic nature, Piper realizes she's just like her mother and decided to do better and apologize to Alex. However, the next time she sees Alex, she draws her to the library, picks a fight with her and has rough sex with her, without even apologizing.
- A Day in the Limelight: We see some scenes from Bennett's tour.
- Comically Missing the Point: Bennett trying to explain why their "Hollaback Girl" video is funny.
- Control Freak: Alex accuses Piper of doing this, simply by admitting fault when Alex wouldn't so she could have control over their relationship. It gets worst when she finds out that Piper got her thrown back into prison for her own needs.
- Country Matters: Alex tells Piper she's a manipulative cunt. Piper can't bring herself to repeat the word later.
- Dramatically Missing the Point: Piper cracks and admits she lied to Alex's parole officer just to get her back in prison to be with her and Alex is angered over this. Piper selfishly sees nothing wrong with this or what she's done.
- Drill Sergeant Nasty: Bennett's CO.
- Eat That: The exterminator finds a probable (75% certainty) bedbug in a book. Taystee claims it's a muffin crumb (90%). The exterminator tells her to have at it.Taystee: I'm at about fifty-fifty!
- Fan Disservice: The entire inmate population has to wear paper garments while their uniforms are washed. There aren't enough. Even the most conventionally attractive walk around in granny panties and knee socks. It doesn't stop Caputo from being Distracted by the Sexy a few times.
- Fanservice: Piper and Alex stripping down during their fight and having sex in the library.
- Some of the military men filming a silly music video lip syncing to Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl".
- Foreshadowing: Bennett cowardly staying down and dodging the grenade when another marine made the sacrifice to stop it, foreshadows his abandoning his responsibility as a father to his and Daya's unborn baby.
- Heroic BSoD: Bennett has one at the end of the episode.
- It's All About Me: Piper admits to getting Alex thrown back in prison just so they could be together, then tries miserably to get Alex to stop crying all so they could have romantic time only because Piper wants to. Alex calls her out on this, leaving Piper to say nothing.
- Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Piper and Alex start having rough sex on a table, then move onto the floor.
- Parental Abandonment: After seeing where the baby might grow up, Bennett discards the crib on an empty road and drives off, becoming a deadbeat dad to Daya's unborn baby.
- Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: Alex delivers one to Piper complete with a slap.Alex: You bitch!
- Psycho Lesbian: Piper starts to become one, by getting Alex thrown back into prison by lying about her and then refusing to see any fault in her actions doing so. Then she restarts their relationship via cold silent Slap-Slap-Kiss and Destructo-Nookie.

- Split Screen: Used to good effect when Piper talks to Alex through the bathroom stall door.

Alex: Which wasn't hot for you, was it? Depressives are bummer fuck buddies. Can't have that. (Beat) God, you're such a manipulative cunt! (leaves) - After Red finds out Piper lied about her restaurant.Red: You're a selfish little person. You wanted me to like you. Now I like you less.
