The tenth One Piece TV Special, which aired on December 18, 2015.

While sailing in the New World, the Straw Hats bump into Foxy once again and are challenged into another Davy Back Fight. However, what neither crew realizes is that they are falling into a trap laid by the tactician Komei.

Funimation dubbed the special and released it in June 2019.

Tropes:

  • Art Evolution: Noticeable when flashbacks of the original Davy Back fight are briefly used.
  • Animation Bump: In some shots, the crowds of Marines are rendered in CGI. This is generally done well enough to avoid conspicuousness. The special appears to have a larger animation budget than the TV series, too.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: The Mushroom Snake Chopper and Brook run into helps them out when they free it from one of the Marines' bear traps and Chopper heals his injury.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Just as it seems all is lost for Luffy, Foxy and the Straw Hats, Chopper, Brook and the rest of the Foxy Pirates arrive on the Mushroom Snake they had saved earlier to come save them.
  • Butt-Monkey: Being on Luffy's side doesn't change Foxy's Butt Monkey status very much.
  • Canon Discontinuity: The special ignores all the anime-only events involving Foxy, such as the Foxy pirates briefly taking Robin as their crewmate and the two times he crossed paths with them again. In particular, Franky is surprised to see Foxy's Slow-Slow powers despite having seen them before at Spa Island.
  • Chekhov's Gun:
    • The pin badge that Foxy gives to Luffy becomes a Pocket Protector when he is shot by Kansho.
    • The sneezing gas that Chopper and Brook run into while looking for the Rebound Mushroom is later used against the Marines when Chopper, Brook and the rest of the Foxy Pirates show up to save their friends.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Komei actually almost won at the end as he managed to capture Zoro, Sanji, Robin, Franky, Usopp, and Nami, and nearly drowned Luffy. But he didn't take into account that the "call" of Chopper and Brook's capture could've been faked, and it ends up costing him at the endgame when the two show up with the remaining Foxy Pirates and free and revive the rest of the Straw Hats and Foxy.
  • Disney Death: Luffy is shot from behind by a special bullet and seemingly killed. Luckily for him, he had a Foxy Pin on him that stopped the bullet and saved his life.
  • Enemy Mine: Luffy and Foxy work together once their crew are taken by Komei and the Marines.
  • Eldritch Location: Nebulandia is a bad place to be if you've eaten a devil fruit, as it's full of dangerous plants that target you and a mist that takes away all your strength. Komei uses it to his full advantage to cripple Luffy, Robin, and Foxy.
  • Lured into a Trap: Komei does this to the Straw Hats multiple times, all cases of which also double as Obvious Traps that the Straw Hats nonetheless have no choice but to walk right into anyway:
    • After capturing Zoro and Sanji (and Porche and Hamburg from Foxy's crew), he brings them to Nebulandia because he knows the rest of the Straw Hats will follow, and that the nature of the island (which is very hazardous to Devil Fruit users) will weaken/incapacitate them. He also knows that they'll leave behind some of their members on Mushroom Island to find the cure for the Drowsy Mushroom, and leaves many of his forces behind to capture them too.
    • At the climax of the movie, Komei brings the captured members (consisting so far of Zoro, Sanji, Robin, Franky, and Usopp) outside, promising to trade them for Luffy if he comes alone to give himself up. Of course, Komei has no intention of actually honoring this deal since he really just wants to capture the whole crew, and is using it as a way to lure Luffy to him. And indeed, Luffy knows fully well that the whole thing's a trap, but still goes anyway.
  • The Mole: Turns out that Kansho, the new member of the Foxy pirates who tagged along to rescue Porche and Hamburg, was actually a marine working for Komei all along.
  • Near-Villain Victory: Komei is probably one of the few foes next to Borsalino that almost causes the eradication of the Straw Hats. It's only thanks to an oversight on his part (see "Didn't See That Coming") and a lot of luck on his opponents' end that his victory is robbed from him.
  • Never Trust a Trailer: The advertisements for this special focused almost entirely on the Davy Back fight, which turns out to be a ploy and doesn't even finish its fist round. Even in the official poster, Komei is given very little focus compared to Foxy.
    • Thanks to this, the advertisements did manage to avert Trailers Always Spoil by not giving away the twist that Luffy and Foxy have to work together.
  • Re-Release Soundtrack: Apparently Funimation weren't able to get the rights to the special's theme song, "Black Make Up", as it's replaced with "We Go!" on the English streaming and home video versions.
  • Sequel Hook: Garp suspects that Komei will be back to his old self soon, implying that he may well go after the Straw Hats again.
  • Status Quo Is God: In the final scene, Foxy suddenly decides that he and Straw Hat are arch enemies again. The Straw Hats saw this coming.
  • Non-Serial Movie: This special can't fit into the manga continuity, as the Straw Hats are already in the New World (which took them directly from Punk Hazard to Dressrossa to Zou) but have their pre-Punk Hazard wanted posters. It could be slotted between Z's Ambition (and Film Z) and Punk Hazard if it weren't for the canon discontinuity mentioned above.
  • The Watson: Franky hadn't joined the Straw Hats the first time they met Foxy, which comes in handy for anyone who hadn't started watching the series back then (or had forgotten the events of a story arc that aired over a decade ago).
  • Worf Had the Flu: The island's effect pretty much nerfs Luffy's power who would've otherwise easily plowed through Komei's obstacles. Once the plants are burned and the water drained from the island, Luffy quickly takes Komei out with no problems.
