Short Summary
Main Summary
Gedatsu lands on Ukkari Hot Spring Island, and befriends Goro. Goro hopes to start up his own resort, and is digging for hot springs. Gedatsu, planning to become the boss of the Blue Sea, helps out, in his comically absentminded manner.
While digging, the two come across the Dirt Boss, a giant mole. Gedatsu defeats the Dirt Boss and takes control of it by installing a cockpit in its helmet. With the Dirt Boss' help, they are able to finally strike paydirt, uncovering a huge hot spring. The geyser attracts the Forest Boss, a carpenter monkey and it's fellows. Gedatsu beats the Forest Boss. While digging with the Dirt Boss, Gedatsu and Goro tunnel all the way to Alabasta, meeting Goro's brother Toto and his nephew Kohza. The family (And Gedatsu) return to Hot Spring Island and see that the Forest Boss has built a grand hotel in their absence.
The tunnel the Dirt Boss dug to Alabasta is made official, with Scissors the crab acting as transport. The resort's first customers happen to be Princess Vivi, Igaram, Pell, Chaka, the Duck Squad, the Kung Fu Dugons, Eyelashes the camel, and Terracotta. Gedatsu, acting as the resort's clerk, is pleased to have become the Boss-man of the Blue Sea!
...Actually, he's become the 'Bath-man' of the Blue Sea. How careless!
Gedtasu's Accidental Blue Sea Life has the following tropes;
- Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: The Dirt Boss.
- The Cameo: Vivi, Kohza, and their guardians from Alabasta appear.
- Cloudcuckoolander: Gedatsu as usual. He forgets to breathe, put food in his mouth, and blink. He also confuses his title of Bath-Man with Boss-Man.
- He also forgets to not defy gravity and stand on the wall.
- Feghoot: The entire story (thus far, anyway...) is basically an excuse for Oda to pun "Boss-man" off of "Bath-man".note
- Scars Are Forever: Pell is shown covered in massive scars, thanks to his Heroic Sacrifice that he somehow survived.
- There Was a Door: Gedatsu tries to enter Goro's house... through the window. How careless!
- Took a Level in Kindness: Though a first-order Cloudcuckoolander back in Skypiea, Gedatsu was also a ruthless Blood Knight with a distinct Lack of Empathy for others. Here, he helps a complete stranger with the hard labor of digging hot springs (at least, until he finds some animals to do it for him), all because he wants to be a Boss-man and got that confused with being a Bath-man.
