Short Summary
A filler mini arc set after the Ocean Dream Arc. The Straw Hats are braving a storm in the Merry when they spot a rowboat with Foxy, and his two subordinates, Porche and Hamburg who are in danger of getting capsized. The crew save them where Foxy explains that a few members of his crew mutinied and kicked him off his ship following his defeat in the Davy Back Fight. Despite being a former adversary, Luffy agrees to help him out.Main Summary
Foxy's Return Arc has the following tropes:
- Adaptation Expansion: As the meeting with Aokiji takes places after the Davy Back Fight on the same island as in the manga, the anime changes it up. The Straw Hats meet Aokiji on a nearby island, and instead of helping Tonjit, he helps a group of people who got shipwrecked due to Yokozuna accidentally destroying the ship they were on.
- Chekhov's Gunman: The captain-less pirates the Straw Hats come across at the beginning of the Davy Back Fight Arc arc are the main villains, along with their captain. Their name, the Fanged Toad Pirates, is also revealed.
- Early-Bird Cameo: Yokozuna shows up here before Water 7.
- Mood Whiplash: In the span of two episodes, we went from the brief return of Afro Luffy to a scene where Robin freaks out. All the courtesy of Aokiji, naturally.
- The Mutiny
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Robin freaks out after seeing Aokiji.
- Ungrateful Bastard: Foxy turns on the Straw Hats after they help him out.
- Would Hit a Girl:
- Episode 226: Zoro shoves Nami. Granted, he was saving her from Foxy's Noro Noro Beam, but even so Sanji goes after him.
- Episode 227: Aokiji attempts to kill Robin. Thank god Zoro intervened.
