Original Airdate: July 16, 2023
Written by: Sawako Kawamitsu
Directed by: Kazayuki Chatani

Summary

The attack on Shugoddam has been repelled by King-Ohger ZERO, the newest mechanical addition to Racules' arsenal. However, the Underground Empire's mole successfully infiltrated the castle and would've escaped with the fruits of Vedalia's labor, if not for the piercing gaze of the tyrannical king halting him in his tracks...

Tropes

  • Call-Back:
    • After cutting down Vedalia, Racules reinforces the Leave No Witnesses mindset he espoused in Secrets #1.
    • Upon agreeing to resume Vedalia's research, Kofuki asks for a "proper burial" like she did.
  • Call-Forward:
    • The final scene of the spin-off is the creation of the Founder's Crown, which Racules would try to use against Gira in #18.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The round candy she ate back in Secrets #1 after wiping Racules' tear contained her research data. The candy is exhumed from her corpse in the finale.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: Implied. Racules' pained expression as he knowingly downplays Vedalia's death is portrayed like another nudge into his "people are tools" mindset.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Shidejim's second bout against OhKuwagataOhger goes about as well as his first one did. This time however, there's no escape for him - He's outright torn from Vedalia's body forcefully.
  • Death Glare: When Shidejim tries appealing to Racules' empathy by implying sparing his life would be what Vedalia wanted, Racules' mocking smile contorts into an intense, offended glare.
  • Foreshadowing: Racules jokingly accuses Boshimar of being the spy that let Shidejim into the castle to get him off Kofuki's back. #20 reveals the advisor to have been murdered and impersonated by Kamejim since at least the show's start.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Racules takes true offense to Shidejim using Vedalia's name to beg for his life.
Racules: Scum like you has no right to say Vedalia's name!
  • Hypocritical Heartwarming: Racules calls Shidejim out for trying to make his desire to live seem like what Vedalia wanted. This is right before Racules attributes his desire to keep Shugoddam's secrets seem like Vedalia's.
  • Ignored Epiphany: After Racules cuts Shidejim down, he looks downward upon Vedalia's corpse. Instead of acknowledging that he had to essentially murder Vedalia for a second time in order to put the entire issue to rest, he very forcefully convinces himself that Vedalia would've wanted to die protecting his nation's secrets; affirming his own myopic worldview by downplaying her contribution and invoking her name to justify himself the way Shidejim did.
  • I Surrender, Suckers: Racules walks up to Shidejim and acts as though he's about to relinquish the OhgerCalibur ZERO in exchange for the information Shidejim inherited from Vedalia. Before the Boggnarok can grab the sword, Racules performs a hand flourish and slices his arm.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Racules takes offense to Shidejim's attempt to appeal to his empathy by implying sparing him is what Vedalia would've wanted and cuts the parasite in twain, knowing that the memories of the completed research would die with it. Downplayed however, as Racules then looks down at the girl's corpse and convinces himself (forcefully) that dying for his nation's secrets is what she'd have wanted.
  • Prequel: Before the credits to the finale roll, a notice pops up affirming that Secret of King Racules takes place between Episodes 2 and 3 of the show.
  • The Promise: Kofuki agrees to continue Vedalia's research, knowing full-well that he'll be disposed of afterward. He asks for a proper burial, like Vedalia did.
  • The Reveal:
    • The red candy Vedalia ate in Episode #1 was actually a jewel that reveals a hidden message when exposed to sunlight. Using the Calibur ZERO, Racules unlocks the castle; transforming the crown he was wearing into the Founder's Crown.
  • Rule of Symbolism: As Racules goes to deliver the killing blow to Shidejim, the Boggnarok is briefly replaced with a smiling Vedalia - a visual representation of Racules simultaneously freeing her from Shidejim's control and destroying the last person that subverted his pragmatist worldview.
