Recap / OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes S 2 E 12 Dendy's Power

Go To

Dendy and K.O. discover a fun and exciting new POW Card exploit.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: Anyone can learn a talent, like coding, as long as you put in the effort.
  • Badass Boast: Shannon has one when she goes One-Winged Angel:
Shannon: How dare you interrupt me?! (Gains a Voice of the Legion) You are NOTHING! I AM EVERYTHING! I AM… THE BEST!
  • Bland-Name Product: Dendy is seen reading how to code in Sapphire, a parody of the Ruby coding language.
  • The Bus Came Back: Carla returns since "No More POW Cards", advertising Dendy's Card Modification services, then later fixing K.O.'s POW Card after he and Dendy defeat Shannon.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The infinity loop in the recoded K.O. card is used to defeat Shannon by overwhelming her.
  • Contagious A.I.: Shannon uses her recoded card to upload herself into the POW card servers and take over everyone's cards.
  • Continuity Nod: Shannon hasn't improved her disguising skills any since "Let's Be Friends!"
  • Exact Words: The episode's title. The episode does indeed show Dendy's power, but it serves a very minor role in the episode compared to her skills.
  • The Farmer and the Viper: Dendy happily gives Shannon the POW Card upgrade, believing that Information Wants to Be Free. Immediately after this, Shannon plugs herself into the POW Card servers using her updated card.
Dendy: Shannon, why are you doing this?
Shannon: Because code isn't free… code is ME! AHAHAHAHA!
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: As Dendy is a firm believer that Information Wants to Be Free, she's happy to do POW Card mods for everyone, even villains like Vormulax and Shannon's.
  • Good Bad Bugs: In-Universe. Dendy bases the mods to the Pow Cards, especially K.O.'s, off a bug in K.O.'s that kept his experience from being registered.
  • Innocent Inaccurate: Potato says she likes the "broccoli theme" on Brandon's POW card, and Brandon gets a weird look on his face. They're appear to actually be pot leaves.
  • Mistaken for an Imposter: After almost falling for Shannon's Paper-Thin Disguise, K.O. assumes Carla is Shannon. Subverted when it turns out that Shannon is right behind her, and on top of the server.
  • Mythology Gag: Dendy uses coding to change K.O.'s nose to the design used in the pilot short Lakewood Plaza Turbo.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Dendy's jumping ability is completely new.
  • Non Sequitur:
Carla: (Sees a demonic Shannon) IT'S A DEMON! Always remember to save your work! (Retreats into the server database)
  • Oh, Crap!: Shannon does this reaction when Dendy sees through her bad disguise.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Shannon just sticks a bunch of random junk to herself to try to get one of the modified cards. K.O. and Dendy don't fall for it (though K.O. almost does) but Dendy gives it to her anyway, because she thinks it's something even villains should be allowed to have.
  • Rank Up: K.O., Enid, Rad, and Dendy all level up!
  • Rewriting Reality: Dendy recodes K.O.'s nose with her hackpack.
  • Sudden Video-Game Moment: Dendy and K.O.'s fight against Shannon turns into a Super Mario RPG style turn-based battle, right down to the use of an overhead isometric perspective.
  • Talented, but Trained: Dendy tells K.O. that her coding skills are not a power that she was born with. She had to work hard at it, and assures him that anyone, even him, can learn it.
  • Thinker Pose: The coding module for K.O.'s card is arranged to resemble The Thinker, with K.O. pointing out that it looks like a work of art.
  • Visual Pun: Dendy tells K.O. that the POW card servers are in the Cloud. He then looks up to the servers installed up in a cloud.
  • Wham Episode: K.O. learns that his POW Card contains a bug that prevents his experience from registering. After it's finally fixed at the end of the episode, he has gained enough to reach Level 3. Dendy, meanwhile, hits Level 2.
