Recap / OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes S1E2 "Let's Be Friends!"

Go To

K.O. wants to become friends with Enid and Rad and get hired at Lakewood Plaza Turbo, so to make them proud he decides to invade Boxmore and take on Lord Boxman himself.

Tropes:

  • Bad Is Good and Good Is Bad: Lord Boxman's excuse for attacking the plaza is that Lakewood Plaza Turbo spreads good cheer and friendship, which is bad for his business of selling weapons and attack robots.
  • Death Is Cheap: Darrell gets melted down for failing Lord Boxman. His consciousness just hops to a new body.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • Boxman is often drawn as rather tall throughout this episode and the next few he appears, while he'd consistently be rather short later on.
    • Boxman claims that he attacks the plaza because it spreads friendship, which lowers the business' profit. Later episodes would illustrate that Boxmore would be better off if it just ignored the plaza and that Boxman only attacks it because he has a specific hatred for it. His hatred for friendship is also downplayed and eventually forgotten with time.
  • Harsh Word Impact: A variant; Boxman acts like he's being pummeled when Rad and Enid turn out to be impressed by K.O. instead of angry and start complimenting him.
  • Immediate Sequel: This episode takes place immediately after "Let's Be Heroes".
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Played for Laughs when Lord Boxman's plan to ruin K.O.'s potential friendship with Rad and Enid just strengthens it.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise:
    • Shannon's disguise is just a bad wig and lipstick smeared around her mouth.
    • K.O. infiltrates Boxmore by wearing a cardboard box while making robot noises. One of the Ernestos even turns to a coworker and asks if they should be offended.
  • Won't Take "Yes" for an Answer: Darrell's head gets thrown back into Boxman's office, and he's pretty upfront about having lost.
Darrell: Oh, hey, dad. I'm back!
    Boxman: And?
    Darrell: And I failed you.
    Boxman: No, you failed me!
  • You Have Failed Me: Lord Boxman melts down Darrell for failing him. Then another Darrell is made.
