Recap / OKKO Lets Be Heroes S 1 E 37 Parents Day

Go To

After Enid refuses to bring her parents over to Gar's for Parents Day, Rad and K.O. go to her house.

Tropes:

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Enid considers her parents, Bernard (a werewolf) and Wilhamena (a vampire), to be like this (and to be fair, they kind of are) but Rad and KO think they're cool. And in the end, Rad claims to Enid that, for as embarrassing as she thinks her parents are, Rad feels that his own parents are way more embarrassing than hers are.
  • Black Sheep: While Bernard and Wilhamena obviously love and care about their daughter very much, there's a bit of tension them and Enid because she wants to be a ninja instead of a witch, and Enid's parents don't consider ninjas to be "spooky." When Enid shows off some of her powers while fighting the family ghosts, her parents are convinced otherwise.
  • Casting a Shadow: Enid uses her ninja powers to summon an enormous shadowy figure to capture the possessed K.O. and Rad. It has the additional effect of convincing her parents that they were wrong about ninjas not being spooky enough.
  • Comically Missing the Point: After Enid turns into a witch and goes into a haunted mansion.
    K.O.: Enid's going trick-or-treating without us?!
  • Demonic Possession: Spanky and Crudde, the mischievous ghosts who live in the basement of Enid's house, amuse themselves by possessing K.O. and Rad and making them cause chaos.
  • Embarrassing Old Photo: Enid's parents show off some embarrassing family photos, including one of Enid as a baby with her first wand, Enid after crashing into a tree during her first attempt to ride a broomstick, and Enid dressed as a slice of pizza "for no reason" (that last picture also moves around).
  • Friendly Neighborhood Vampire: Enid's mother, Wilhamena, is a vampire and proves to be very cordial to her daughter's friends.
  • Fur Against Fang: Very much averted with Enid's parents—her mom's a vampire and her dad's a werewolf, but they're Happily Married with three kids (Enid's got two younger brothers) and are very eager to meet Enid's friends, Rad and KO.
  • Monster Mash: The episode reveals that Enid is a witch, with a werewolf father, a vampire mother, and younger twin brothers who are a Frankenstein's monster and a Pumpkin Person.
  • Open-Minded Parent: Carol casually allows her son to spy on Enid.
  • Portrait Painting Peephole: There's a gallery of paintings in the foyer whose eyes follow the guests around.
  • Random Species Offspring:
    • Vampire mother + Werewolf father = Witch daughter. (She's also a ninja, but that's only by her training.)
    • Vampire mother + Werewolf father = Twin sons, with one of them being a Frankenstein's monster and the other being a Pumpkin Person.
  • Released to Elsewhere: Wilhamena excuses the mess in her house by claiming that their housekeeper recently "bought the farm," an old euphemism for dying. K.O. assumes she meant that the housekeeper moved to the countryside, and Wilhameea doesn't bother correcting him.
  • The Unreveal: Enid blocks entry into her room from everyone and we ultimately don't get to see the inside of it at all.
  • Wingding Eyes: Enid gets angry skull eyes when her mother invites Rad and K.O. to stay for dinner.
  • Wonderful Werewolf: Enid's father, Bernard, is a werewolf and immediately hits it off with her friends.
