Recap / OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes S1E22 "Plaza Prom"

Go To

When Rad throws his own prom at the Plaza, K.O. tries to make sure it goes off without a hitch.

Tropes:

  • Agent Peacock: Raymond displays an array of campy traits throughout the episode.
  • Bishie Sparkle: Raymond's glossed over with sparkles and a pink background when arguing his dismay in not being involved with the Plaza Prom.
  • Butt-Monkey:
    • Rad garners no respect from the Alleyway Teens as they point out how ragged his Plaza Prom has become when they decide to attend. Drupe's commentary doesn't help to ease Rad's concerns over the decay of his party, as the sole reasoning for creating the dance was to gather the Alleyway Teens' admiration.
    • Raymond wouldn't even take a second glance at a defeatist Rad when he arrived at the disastrous prom.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Mr. Gar can't seem to ask Carol out for a one-on-one dance at the Lakewood Plaza Prom. Luckily for Gar, Carol requests for him to take her out onto the prom dance floor, just in time for the last dance.
Mr. Gar: Hello Carol. How are you... How you... doing?
Carol: I'm pretty good! Enjoying yourself?
Mr. Gar: Hello Carol. (Stammers) How are you... doing?
Carol: Uhm, are you ok, Gene?
Mr. Gar: Hello Carol! How are you doing?!
    Carol: Oh boy.
  • Dance-Off: Raymond and Radicles "Dance Battle" hosted by MC K.O. They lead by showcasing their dance moves to the Plaza Prom attendees and gradually incorporate their dance moves into physical fight.
  • Dressed in Layers: Raymond steps up his dancing after ripping off his white tux to reveal an Elvis Presley style cape and open vest.
  • Fireball Eyeballs: R.M.S.'s eyes are engulfed in flames as he's enraged over Brandon embellishing his cover-up story about having a proper date to the Plaza Prom.
  • Gratuitous Disco Sequence: Raymond and Rad's "Dance Battle".
  • Groin Attack: Averted; Raymond nearly misses blasting Rad's nether region off as Rad dismounts the disco ball with a graceful gliding spin.
  • Groupie Brigade: Raymond's Elvis outfit inspires a group of hens dressed like bobby-soxers to swoon over "Ray-Ray".
  • Homoerotic Subtext:
    • Joff the Shaolin Monk and Nick Army are seen as a couple when walking down the red carpet.
    • Joff and Nick share a sentimental glance at each other when reacting to R.M.S. and Brandon's dispute.
    • Nick is caught in an awkward Hand Behind Head still as Joff stares off into Nick's eyes, ignoring the "Dance Battle" situated in front of them.
    • Nick and Joff hold on to each others hands as they dance during the ending sequence.
  • Hypocrite: When Brandon's alleged date doesn't show up, A Real Magic Skeleton accuses Brandon of lying about his date, only for R.M.S. to confess later on that he also lied about having no date, in addition to Brandon admitting that he didn't have a date either.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Despite their spiteful confrontation over each other on not netting a date for the Plaza Prom, Brandon and R.M.S. make amends of their friendship by the end of the episode. Brandon classifies R.M.S. and himself as garbage and proceed to take each others respective corsages, acknowledging each other as the other's prom date.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: Dendy attends the Plaza Prom in a classic tuxedo-clad attire.
  • Literal Metaphor: MC K.O. shouts out to DJ Fireball to immediately stop playing the popular music and and hit the playlist in her heart. Enid proceeds by ripping out of her chest a vinyl record labelled "Good Music".
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Raymond fashionably crashes into the Plaza Prom with the intent in wrecking the dance, but finds what's left of the party is already a mess due to K.O. and Rad's strict following of the party scroll. K.O. convinces Raymond to challenge Rad to an impromptu "Dance Battle", encouraging Rad in having fun at his own party. The pair end up livening up the party, sending Raymond off into a A Twinkle in the Sky amid his defeat on the dance floor.
  • Not Worth Killing: When Raymond crashes the Plaza Prom, he plans on engaging in a retaliation attack on everyone attending for not being properly invited. Seeing as how the Plaza Prom is left in a disarray of a mess already, Raymond intends to leave the shambled party as is.
  • Resurrected for a Job: Parodied; As DJ Fireball has flat-lined from overplaying popular music at the Plaza Prom, she is awoken to life by MC K.O. directing her to play some cool tunes from her original playlist.
  • Royal Brat: Raymond bombasters the attendees of the Plaza Prom by delivering a sulky speech atop of his bed of roses. He's a self proclaimed "Prince of Panache".
  • Say It: When Rad schedules a discussion of the Plaza Prom with K.O. and Enid, Enid won't answer Rad until he addresses with her DJ handle, DJ Fireball.
  • Schedule Fanatic: Rad has a party scroll written by his cousin's friend Blaine that contains "all" the rules for having a successful party. Rad pleads for K.O. and Enid to follow this scrolls wording to the letter. Enid is especially bummed, as Rad employs her to only use popular music in her playlist, rather than her cool music playlist she had set up for the Plaza Prom.
    Thou Shalt Serve Hors D'oeuvres
    Thou Shald Keep Guests Hydrated
    Thou Shalt Play Popular Music
    Thou Shalt Not Invite Lame-O's
    Thou Shalt Insist On Cleaning...
    ...© Party Scroll Copyright 201X

  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: When K.O. scans the immaculate party scroll for answers on how to deal with evil robots invading a party, he decides its entire use is worthless as it contains no detail on how to handle the situation. K.O. evokes a motivational speech directed at Rad and Enid to do what's in their hearts, leading them to sprucing up the air at the Prom Party and besting Raymond with a "Dance Battle".
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Raymond and Radicles.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Carol comes to the prom in a gorgeous disco dress, wowing K.O. and leading Gar into a Nervous Wreck.
  • Shout-Out: Raymond's call-out between his dance references Chanticleer of Rock-A-Doodle.
  • Something about a Rose:
    • Raymond arrives at the centerfold of the Lakewood Plaza Prom in very own personalized gigantic rose.
    • Raymond displays a Bishōnen rose clenched between his jaws, rapidly consuming the entire rose, leaving no trace of a petal or the stem behind.
  • Spam Attack: Rad tap dances atop of Raymond's face, causing an array of springs and gears to spout forth from Raymond's head.
  • Suckiness Is Painful: Enid, under her DJ Fireball persona, suffers this while playing "Popular Music". K.O. eventually tells her to play what's in her heart, allowing her to play "Good Music".
