Recap / Ninjago S7E72 "Pause and Effect"

Go To

Airdate: May 24, 2017

The ninja try to rescue the captives in the Brothers's swamp hideout, while Kai goes to confront his father.

Tropes:

  • Are You Pondering What I'm Pondering?: Faced with all the captive blacksmiths and engineers, Cole asks if Jay's thinking what he's thinking. Jay thinks he's suggesting they get everyone to assemble a ludicrously complex piece of equipment to bust everyone out... rather than, as Cole was thinking, a ladder.
  • The Bus Came Back: Karlof and Cole's dad are among those held captive by the Brothers.
  • Comically Missing the Point: The Vermillion Warriors assumed the Royal Blacksmiths were actual blacksmiths, and never bothered to check.
  • Dream Sequence: Wu dreams of being attacked by Vermillion Warriors, which then change into Misako, Garmadon and Morro, calling him out on his failings, before they're joined by the floating heads of the ninja.
  • Exposed to the Elements: The third Time Blade shows up on a frozen mountain peak. Cyrus is the only one who seems to be feeling the cold. Macchia, despite being made of snakes, doesn't seem bothered in the least.
  • Heroic BSoD: When Borg goes missing from his scanner, and despondent about P.I.X.A.L.'s continuing inexplicable absence, Zane goes into a funk until he picks up Borg's signature again.
  • I Have Your Wife: Krux held Kai and Nya's parents captive by threatening to harm their children. And by showing up, this means Krux can now do the reverse, holding them hostage to ensure Kai and Nya's cooperation.
  • Loophole Abuse: Raggmunk and Blunk are told not to let Wu out of their sight for a moment, but then they get snacky. Solution? Tie Wu up in a wheelchair and bring him with them.
  • The Reveal: Krux was lying. Ray and Maya aren't evil and never were. They've been captive all this time. The reason Ray put his symbol on the armor pieces was a subtle distress call.
