Tropes in this episode:

  • Amicable Exes: Implied Trope. They don't interact with Jess, but Jess's ex-boyfriends Sam and Robbie apparently remained on good terms with the gang after three years, since they show up in all seriousness to Furguson's death anniversary. Sam even wears an animal print shirt, which Winston had tried (and failed) to get him to do in a previous episode.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The opening scene is shot like a mournful funeral, giving the audience the impression a major death has occurred. It turns out to be the death anniversary of Winston's cat.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: Many past recurring characters attend Furguson's funeral, most prominently Coach, but also Sam, Robbie and Outside Dave.
  • Cute Kitten: Winston finds a small, adorable cat at the bar and adopts it.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: Aly presents Winston with Furguson's baby teeth. Coach mistakes them for white chocolate-covered raisins and eats some. He instantly spits them out, declaring that they're cat teeth, leading Aly to wonder why he would know that.
  • Inside a Wall: Implied. Winston hears a cat behind the walls at the bar and tries to free it. Instead it was inside one of the rows of seating.
  • It Always Rains at Funerals: Parodied. A Gray Rain of Depression falls over the opening scene, where mourners gather at a plot...that holds Winston's cat.
  • Real After All: Winston keeps hearing meowing, and everyone else thinks he's just processing his grief at Ferguson's passing (and later, losing his mind when he starts unscrewing the paneling). But then it turns out to be an actual cat under the bar couch cushions, which Winston promptly adopts.
  • Titled After the Song: The episode is titled after a lyric from Enya's "Only Time", which plays in the opening scene.
