"So, would you like to freak?"
Jess

"Virgins" is the 23rd episode of New Girl's second season.

The main characters talk about how they each lost their virginity.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Bridal Carry: Nick carries Jess in his arms and brings her to his bed.
  • Firemen Are Hot: Much is made of the inherent hotness of firemen in Jess's story. She lost her virginity to the first responder who helped rescue her from an extremely awkward attempted sexcapade.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: In their early twenties, Jess, Cece, Nick, Winston, and Schmidt were all at the same bar (the same one Nick now works at) on the same night. Cece pegged the male trio as "definitely single" and Schmidt even attempted to hit on Cece. However, none of them remember this.
  • Framing Device: Each character's first time is told through flashbacks, framed through the five main characters telling these stories to each other.
  • Girls Like Musicians: The cute guy Jess flirted with on prom night can play the guitar. This is treated as a Charm Point.
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Jess attempting to lose her virginity inside a plastic children's castle ends badly.
  • Mistaken for Prostitute: Inverted. Winston mistook "Mysteria", an extremely obvious hooker, for a legitimate businesswoman voluntarily sleeping with him.
  • No Name Given: The guitarist whom Jess twice almost lost her virginity to (played by Dylan O'Brien) is not named; he instead credited as "The Guy".
  • Professional Sex Ed: Winston's first time was with a prostitute Nick's father had hired for the boys.
  • Sex in a Shared Room: Played for laughs. In a flashback to Nick and Schmidt's college days, Schmidt (who was still heavily obese at this point) is trying to lose his virginity to then-girlfriend Elizabeth. Nick had promised to be out of the room, but was extremely high Schmidt and Elizabeth started getting it on (he was too stoned to leave the bottom bunk and they were on the top bunk, so they didn't notice him at first). After a mishap involving too much lubricant, Schmidt falls off the top bunk and there is an extended slapstick sequence of Nick trying to help him back up.
  • Sex Montage: The episode ends with a montage of the five protagonists in bed with their current significant others. Except for Cece and Shivrang, all of them are shagging.
  • Technical Virgin: When Mysteria asks if Winston is a virgin, his response is "just my penis".
  • Their First Time: The episode focuses on the five main characters' first times having sex.
    • Jess's first time is a long and drawn out story involving ditching her prom date for a cute guitarist, meeting that guitarist again years later, and then not sleeping with him but instead with the fireman who rescued them after they got stuck in a kids' playhouse in the act.
    • Schmidt and Elizabeth were both virgins, and true to the spirit of this trope, their plan went awry. Schmidt went overboard on the lube, resulting in plenty of embarrassing slapstick.
    • Winston's first time was with a prostitute hired by Nick's dad.
    • Nick had a very mundane first time: "Allison Daniels, on a towel in the woods. I cried. She kept her bra on. It was nice."
    • Cece lost her virginity to Mick Jagger.
