In the first of the two parter, Gibbs teams up with ex-FBI agent Tobias Fornell to catch a hitman for hire who murdered a jury foreman on a high profile case. Also, Sloane aids Gibbs in uncovering enough evidence to put away Gabriel Hicks for the crimes he committed, but was acquitted of by Gibbs himself.
Tropes:
- Cliffhanger: Sloane and Jessica Schaeffer, Hicks' now-former lawyer get hit by a car bomb, unknown if either survived the blast. Sloane survives, but Schaeffer isn't so lucky.
- Internal Reveal: Fornell learns that Gabriel Hicks was actually guilty, as does Jessica Schaeffer.
- Red Herring: The investment banker Albert Hathaway. Turns out he didn't put out the hit, but he's still guilty of the Ponzi scheme.
- Say My Name: The last thing viewers hear is Gibbs' frantic shouts of "Jack? Jack!" from Sloane's cell phone.
