The death of a Petty Officer forces Gibbs and co to reunite with a familiar-looking amateur detective group, and discover that a close friend has joined this exclusive club.

Tropes:

• And Starring: Robert Wagner returns as Anthony DiNozzo Sr.
• Brain Bleach: During the conversation over a surprise dinner at Gibbs' place, Senior asks for Gibbs blessing to woo Judith. Gibbs starts choking on his steak before answering.
• Butt-Monkey: Gibbs gets hit hard with this in this episode. Courtesy of Senior and Judith.
• Continuity Nod: Palmer and Ducky have a lot of fun addressing each other as 'Doctor', ever since Jimmy revealed to the team he earned his title. It is even on his 'Sherlock Consortium' ID.
• Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Senior admits to Gibbs that this is one of the reasons why he joined the Sherlockians. He fell into a huge funk, so when he was visiting his son and granddaughter in Paris for Christmas, Tony put in a call of recommendation for him.
  Senior: I admit they're out there, but they got my blood pumping again.
• It's a Long Story: Torres, who wasn't around when Team Gibbs met the Sherlocks, is confused about the rest of the team knowing who Sheriff Osario is:
  Torres: The Sherlocks?
  McGee It's a long story.
  Torres: Wait, you know this guy?
  McGee: Even longer story.
  [...]
  Torres: Wait, I'm sorry... last time?
  McGee: Really long story.
• Loophole Abuse: Walter Osario, the leader of the Sherlocks, is now the Sheriff of the County where the body is found, so that means the rest of the Sherlocks besides Jimmy (who's one of the NCIS M.E.s) can't get involved because it's an official case. Osario then makes Lyle and Judith Deputies so they can help out.
• Mistaken for Romance: Senior believes Judith and Gibbs had some romantic connection, judging by her constant advances. He is not just wrong, but goes so far as to ask for Gibbs' permission to court her.
• "No. Just… No" Reaction: Gibbs hears the sound of glass hitting glass and rushes the room gun drawn... Only to be walking in on Senior and Judith sharing a bubble bath. Even Gibbs is unwilling to deal with this.
• Present Company Excluded: When McGee and Jimmy tell Quinn and Torres who the Sherlocks are, who weren't around the last time Team Gibbs cross paths with them:
  Quinn: What? They look like a bunch of wackos! Ooo, no offense, Jimmy.
  Jimmy: Oh, none taken. We get that a lot. But we're actually quite adept at crime-solving.
