- Last-Second Chance: Vance and Gibbs gave him one final chance to lay down his gun. He did not go for it and was subsequently shot before he could open fire on them or the director of SECNAV, and knocked through the glass window behind him.
- Meaningful Background Event: During the Dramatic Pause as Cobb contemplates what SECNAV has told him, Jimmy and Gibbs can be seen exchanging glances, with Jimmy giving a barely perceptible nod in response to Gibbs', making it clear that he knows what to expect—when the shooting breaks out, he instantly drops to the floor and escapes harm.
- Sequel Hook: Season 8 closes with Tony given work to catch a mole in NCIS. The Season 9 opener follows how Tony caught the mole, whilst getting shot in the process.
