Paradise is telling a sad story, and its ending has everyone in tears... except for Wind Whistler, who can't help but wonder why the hero rode off into the sunset at the end when nightfall is the worst time to set off on a long and arduous journey. This earns her the mockery of the other ponies, who accuse her of having no feelings for aiming trivial complaints at such a sad story. Wind Whistler is hurt by this accusation, and despite Megan and Danny standing up for her leaves the nursery in dejection.

Meanwhile, the bushwoolies are rolling for their lives while pursued by rocks with faces. The rocks' master soon follows, revealing himself as Crunch, a giant dog made out of stone. As he passes, plants and water turn to stone and barren soil. He soon corners the bushwoolies and turns them to stone.

At Paradise Estate, Wind Whistler is wandering the garden by herself, still hurt by the others' accusation, while Megan tries to cheer her up. A single escaped bushwoolie arrives at this point, having fled to Paradise Estate to warm the ponies that Crunch the Rockdog from the Purple Mountains has arrived and is causing havoc. In the mist of the turmoil following this declaration, Wind Whistler's call for calm only nets her more accusations of emotionlessness. She explains the she meant that they can't go running off without a plan. Megan agrees, and decides to head to the Mushromp to ask Mr. Moochick for information about this Crunch.

Megan, Danny, Gusty, Buttons, Truly, Wind Whistler and the surviving bushwoolie soon arrive at the Mushromp, where they find Habbit and the Moochick chasing after the latter's animated cane. The visitors are able to calm down the situation by suggesting that the cane is feeling unappreciated, and the Moochick gets it back at his side after agreeing to give it off days "on the days when the mushrooms bloom". When asked if he knows anything about Crunch, the Moochick admits that he's never heard of him. He does however suggest paying a visit to His Elevated Eminence, the Mountain King, who probably has.

On route, the heroes come across a field of petrified bushwoolies and cross paths with one more escaped 'woolie, who is running from Crunch and his minions. The first bushwoolie goes to help him escape, but both are petrified. After an attempt by Danny to bring Crunch to heel that ends spectacularly badly, the heroes are forced to run as well. Gusty decides to hang back and distract the pursuit to gain the others time, but her attempt to blind the rocks with a dust cloud fails to achieve much. Turning to run, she finds Crunch looming in her path and is soon turned to stone.

This episode contains examples of:

  • A Handful for an Eye: Gusty tries blowing dust into the eyes of the rock monsters to distract them, but it doesn't work since they are made out of stone.
  • Riding into the Sunset: Discussed and deconstructed. The story Paradise tells the others ends with the male lead riding off into the sunset (or, well, running into the sunset, since he's a horse). Wind Whistler points out that this is a terrible idea, since nightfall is the worst time to set off on a long, potentially dangerous journey.
  • Taken for Granite: Crunch spends most of the episode gleefully turning other creatures to stone, including Gusty and most of the bushwoolies.
  • Too Dumb to Live: When Crunch turns the last two bushwoolies to stone, a furious Danny storms off to deal with him... by walking up to the giant evil dog that can turn anyone to stone with a touch and telling him to heel like a disobedient puppy. Quite literally the only thing that saves him is that Crunch is too busy laughing himself sick to petrify him before Megan runs in and drags Danny off.
  • Villain Song: "I Hate Soft", where Crunch sings about how much he hates softness of the body and softness of the soul and wishes to see the whole world turned to hard rock.
