The kids and the ponies are picking cherries to make into cherry jubilee, and Megan is using the Rainbow of Light to clear the sky of rainclouds. Danny grabs the locket and starts messing around with the Rainbow, until Megan scolds him for using powerful magic irresponsibly. A contrite Danny flies off on Surprise, while two monkey-like creatures, the gizmonks Gonk and Glouda, watch from afar on a surveillance machine and decide that they want to get their hands on the Rainbow of Light.

Thinking that Danny and Surprise have the locket, they kidnap them to obtain it. On finding out that they don't, they send their drudge, Drudge, to deliver a message — if the kids and ponies want to see Danny and Surprise again, they'll have to hand over the Rainbow of Light. Megan replies that she'll need a while to think it over to buy some time. At the gizmonks' base, Danny and Surprise have however hatched their own plan to get free. They flatter and admire the gizmonks' tech to charm them into letting them out of their cage and, once they're free, start messing with their machines, flipping switches, releasing test subjects and generally making a mess of things.

Drudge eagerly joins in when she realizes what's going on, and the three of them soon turn the lab into a smoke-filled, hazardous disaster. By the time the rest get to the gizmonk base, they find Gonk and Glouda already running for the hills and their erstwhile captives cheerfully free. Drudge promises to rebuild the base to produce actually useful things instead of the gizmonks' pointless contraptions, and the others promise to help out should the gizmonks show their faces there again.
